I hope all y'all in the Houston area are safe. I was glad to learn the animals haven't been forgotten. Texas animal rescue advocates have been evacuating pets and livestock. Houston's Zoo stacked sandbags and left a "ride-out" crew to care for its 6,000 animals.

A severe weather occurrence like this can happen to any of us,I pray that the rescuers, whether paid fire, police, and coast guard,or the wonderful folks bringing in their own boats, can get to those needing succor..it is a heartbreaking situation for all of them.I think the country is finally starting to realize we better pull together and stop being divisive, because we need each other..so far I am only seeing two deaths reported, thank God for that, and may the rescuers continue with renewed strength after they get a bit of rest of food..

6 more deaths. A family caught in their vehicle in high water. Prayers for all.

Somewhere over the rainbow
:icon_eek:
Floods of almost Biblical proportions struck the Texas coast.
Rain's still falling; Harvey's back... It looks like Houston's toast.
They've got snakes and alligators swimming up the street.
Rainfall's being measured now in multiples of feet.

People in their thousands fled but have no place to go.
Everyone has offered help (including Mexico.)
If you want to join the effort, please donate on line
Or text "HARVEY" and send to 909-99.

That's a great poem MrsSmeej :adoration::beguiled:- I am not able to rhyme like that, but I did find something interesting on Scientific American - I was wondering this myself (how it escalated so quickly)

["How can Harvey produce such extreme rainfall even though it is no longer over the ocean?
The answer to this is fascinating. Normally a hurricane pulls moisture up from the ocean and releases it as rain all around the storm’s area, particularly in the northeastern quadrant. But Harvey has dropped so much water over such a large area of southeastern Texas that the storm is pulling that water back up into itself and dumping it again as more rain. The flood area is so far and wide that it is acting like part of an ocean, feeding warm moisture up into Harvey. “You only need about 50 percent of the land to be covered with water for that to happen,” Masters says. “Obviously we have more than that in Texas.”

Could Harvey exist as a self-perpetuating rain machine over land?
Masters says meteorologists cannot answer this question yet. “If it were to stay perfectly still, could it maintain itself for a long period of time?” he asks. “That’s an interesting theoretical question. We just don't know.”]

Sending a prayer out to those affected by Hurricane Harvey

My brothers wife has half her relatives living in Houston (the other half lives in Minnesota). So far they are all right. Only James, a nephew of hers, are a little upset because he bought a house two months ago, his first own house, and now it is at risk to float away. Hes damning destiny. But leaving town? Never!

Have you heard anything about power outages. I haven't really heard anything about how wide spread power outages are.
Last I heard Charms/ Cheri had power. Weather station saying parts of Houston without power. It appears to be spotty. Many who decided to stay are asking for rescue now. Problems from the water release the water. Also a levee broke in the southern part of Houston. Hope you family is OK.

I don't think Houston had a lot of wind related damage but I would think that power has to be shut off where there is flooding.
