I'll try not to rant, but I did it. I wrote a story and published it on my blog! It's very short, only around 2500 words, but it's an actual finished story with a beginning, middle, and ending - I wish it was a happier ending but that just wasn't in the cards. There was resolution and that's what's really important. Anyways, here is a link:

...I took a moment to read it through, and I hope you won't mind some comment....the flow was a bit uneven, and some word choices like "tummy" were a bit off-but as a whole, your characters and use of language is very good and very promising....I wish you great success.....

I appreciate you reading it as well as the honest feedback, you are kind about it which is very nice & helpful. I wondered about the word 'tummy' myself. I should have used something different. Thank you so much for the perspective. It's greatly appreciated and I'm thrilled to take any pointers I can get! :)

...I'm no writer kiddo, but I have read a ton and just know what I instinctively feel in pacing and writing style....others will have other viewpoints diametrically opposed to mine...and kindness?...you bet, it's a hell of an effort and I wasn't about to crap all over it girl!...ain't nobody got time for that....:D

Well some crazy things are happening. Weird because all the stories I've sent out have been rejected, I post one for free on my blog, and now a local magazine is interested in publishing it!!!!!!!!!! I mean, just wow.

So now an author friend of mine is telling me about my rights and I don't even know if I'm going to get any money and I really don't care (even though I could use the money). Being able to give my family and friends signed copies of actual professionally published work of mine is.. I'm just kind of numb and floating around at this point.

Tugging at my mind is a pesky nagging thought of, what if this was a fluke? What if I never do any better? Who knows what's going to happen, but this is pretty darn encouraging.

There is a short story contest, which I've lost in the past, and I'm hoping I can whip something up in time for the deadline. The grand prize is $5000.00 and a writers workshop that I couldn't afford otherwise. I think I'm going to go for it this year. Why not, right? :D

You're right, Prufrock. When I was trying to get published, I wasn't just writing what I want, I was thinking about what people might like, and what might sell. It wasn't natural. But when I just took off the pressure and wrote what I wanted my own way I actually did something I really like and everyone else liked it too. Thanks for pointing that out. Actually, the more I think about the contest, and what they might be looking for, the more I just draw a complete blank. I need to just relax and forget about the money and the course. The deadline is in five weeks, and if I do something I want to send in, great (really super-great!), if not, I can just have fun and keep posting to my blog, or just send in what I like best, and not worry about trying to guess what they want. Thanks for that. :)
