Well some crazy things are happening. Weird because all the stories I've sent out have been rejected, I post one for free on my blog, and now a local magazine is interested in publishing it!!!!!!!!!! I mean, just wow.

So now an author friend of mine is telling me about my rights and I don't even know if I'm going to get any money and I really don't care (even though I could use the money). Being able to give my family and friends signed copies of actual professionally published work of mine is.. I'm just kind of numb and floating around at this point.

Tugging at my mind is a pesky nagging thought of, what if this was a fluke? What if I never do any better? Who knows what's going to happen, but this is pretty darn encouraging.

There is a short story contest, which I've lost in the past, and I'm hoping I can whip something up in time for the deadline. The grand prize is $5000.00 and a writers workshop that I couldn't afford otherwise. I think I'm going to go for it this year. Why not, right? :D
Do it! You probably don't even have to start a story from scratch if you don't want to. You probably have something laying around loose in your word program just waiting for some love. You can do it.

Nice piece- have you joined a publisher?

I found an editor who publishes newbies work for free. If you want, i can PM you details. Ive already seen his work, so its legit - and he releases a book quarterly.

(No $ reward, only the sniffing of the book your story made it into harmony)

I have a couple ideas for the contest. One is a mess that I've been trying to untangle for years, every once in a while I dust it off and play around with it, but I"m yet to consider it done. The other is a fresh one, which is right now just a jotting of notes, and fragmented chunks of prose and dialogue that I can hopefully weave together and polish up; we will see what happens.

No, I haven't heard back from the publisher. If I hear back, I hear back, if not, no problem. I really just want to focus on my prose and my dialogue, both of those need a lot of work. Ideas are usually no problem. I have tons of them filed away. I almost always jot them down. I kinda wish I'd not published my short story to my blog. That's the winner, I can feel it, but the rules say the story can't have been previously published. I'm pretty sure my blog counts, even though I'd edit the story, clean up the dialogue, the prose at the end. Still not worth it. The last thing I want is to win, then have to forfeit for cheating. I'm not a cheater. I've just got to do something better. Bottom line.

I wrote a new blog entry. With yet another little nod to King. This one is called Menstrual Cup. It's not really for the faint of heart. Nothing I write is, really.

Na - blogs are ok - it's not really published- and you can take it down any time. and you're not making cash from it. So i reckon you're okay to send it to the comp. just say you were putting it out there for Beta reading and tests.

Try 559 publishing - talk to Alan. Tell him the mouthy aussie sent you. (And he is a Constant Reader)

Up all night... again. I was mostly reading and knitting, but then when I went to lay down and try to get some sleep, I got a little sparkle. This one was based on a nightmare I had a long time ago. I'm sure I jotted it down when I woke up, but I didn't have to look it up because I never forgot it. It's drafted, flowed sweet like magic, but I'm not sure if I'll use it for the contest. It's pretty scary and nothing scary has ever won before, that I know of. Plus it's really short. Under 1000 words. I'm going to try and come up with a few options and then polish up the one I decide to use. The rest will go to my blog. Anyways, time to get the munchkin off to school. It's going to be a very long day.:sleeping::sleeping:
