but from what i understand both stories deal with a vehicle that has developed a mind of it's own, correct? are they any good? is Christine better as being of one of the "classic Stephen King" novels?

Indeed, Christine is vintage King. You'd better read it, you'll like it. The movie isn't too shabby, either. John Carpenter directed.

Maximum Overdrive is just good old Drive-Inn style fun. For all its bad reviews you'd think the flick was terrible, but it's not. I've never met anyone who saw it and didn't like it.

Now TRUCKS is a piece of made-for-cable dog crap. Avoid it like the plague.

I second what everyone above said. Christine is classic King, great book and I love John Carpenter's Adaption to the screen. As for Maximum Overdrive, its just great, Every time it is on I just cant turn it off. Its the total cheesy b-flick drive in feel to it. Of course it got bad reviews because its a bad movie, but in so many good ways. If you are a fan of SK your sure to appreciate and enjoy the movie.

Christine is a great novel. Trucks (short story that is the basis for Maximum Overdrive movie) is just meh.

Christine is a really good movie. Maximum Overdrive is freakin' hilarious, especially the cameo by Mr. King, himself.

Read first, then enjoy the movies!

If you like his 'car centric' stories, The Road Virus Heads North and Riding the Bullet are better than either Maximum Overdrive (or the story it was based upon, Trucks) or Christine.

Whenever I read Trucks I marvel at how the survivors were able to pump all that gas the trucks needed so desperately after the trucks, themselves, knocked the power out on page five.

It's probably best not to let ourselves get too bogged down in the minutiae.

been a long time since I read the book or saw the movie, was there a generator hookup?or was there power to the truck depot by the unexplained phenomena?at worst,a siphoning system probably wouldn't be too hard to figure out..
