Behind you
Friend and I used to look my dad's when we were little. Then she told me were probably going to hell and should tell about it in confessions.

I told the priest, she didn't of course. Oh how she laughed at how long I was up there prayin afterwords.

I'm cracking up! :D
I used to make up stuff to confess. The priest that heard our confessions was also one of our teachers so I was afraid he'd recognize my voice and send me to hell if I told my real sins :a11:

I heard about this on the radio this morning and all I could think of was that episode of Friends where Ross and Chandler are arguing over who made up the joke Ross got printed in the magazine and Joey says:

"You guys know there's naked chicks in there, right?"

Oh well . . .

I suppose you wouldn't believe me if I told you I only read Penthouse for the self-help Forum at the beginning of each magazine.....

Okay, I almost snorted coffee out my nose.

Some things, sinful or not, paragon of clericism or not, smoky/dark screen or not, one just doesn't tell the priest. Whether it's out of privacy or not feeling that it's really all that sinful.

But yeah, only reading these vintage Playboys for those articles. My favorite is Gone in October, by John Clellon Holmes (not Johnny Wad, you creeps), you know, author of the first real Beat Novel, Go. It's about Kerouac's funeral, real sad and nostalgic, bittersweet as heck. Got the first publication of Hunter Thompson's The Great Shark Hunt. Yeah. Big great interviews with the likes of Mel Brooks, Bob Dylan, Francis Ford Coppolla, lots of killer Little Annie Fannie strips by legendary EC alums Harvey Kurtzman, Will Elder, and Jack Davis.

Playboy was tame, man. For every 100+page issue, their was maybe eight, ten pages of tasteful nudes, nothing like the bottom-feeding scum you find on this internet doohickey. But yeah, Hugh Hefner was kinda a D-bag.

I remember reading interviews of John Lennon, Jimmy Carter, the Saturday Night Live crew, and others. Their interviews were gold. Also remember reading a portion of "The Executioner's Song" by Norman Mailer. Some sketchy stuff, too, but a lot of really good journalism and story-writing. And yeah, on a heterosexual lechery level, I remember some blonde lady with hair past her, um, hips that just about made me swoon.

Grandma got me a subscription long ago. As the kids started getting older, I let it lapse and got rid of any back issues. Just our idea of part of responsible parenting. We kept very little alcohol in the house too. Whether all that was right or not, it's what we did. Never went back.

I guess when Playboy dumped the nudity on their website, their traffic increased tremendously, which was probably a tipping point for this latest decision. Whether it's the right decision or not, we'll see. At least they can say they're not an NSFW publication anymore.

I'm going to guess your thinking of Debra Jo Fondren (sp?).

It's funny, but yesterday when wacky morning zoo radio guys were recalling their "favorite" Playmates, Debra Jo was the first one I thought of. Memory is a notorious trickster, but it says something -- I think -- about how useful all those kind-of naked girls ever were when even a 12-year- old boy knows that long, lustrous hair is far sexier than naked boobs.

It could be. I don't remember names. I just remember various poses with that hair in provocative arrangements.

I'm not good on names. When I had the subscription, I remember seeing Michael Jackon's Thriller and thinking, "Hey, his girlfriend looks like one of the centerfolds." Turned out I was right.

I will say, that aforementioned aside, for being such a bastion of liberalism, Playboy wasn't exactly the most diverse in its selection back then. I remember Long-Haired Blonde being a pretty girl, but hair aside, I'm not sure I could pick her out of a lineup of other pretty blonde girls. I guess commercialism reigns and they were playing to their audience.
