Hello,
Yes, I am new here. Almost gave up with all the rigamarole to get to post. Rarely do I ever engage in forums.
Stephen King has long been an inspiration to me.
The first and most inspiring book was IT. The story had nothing to do with it. The outstanding way Mr. King took five different points of view to the present, then 30 years forward, then back amazed me. You didn't have to ever stop to figure out who was who.
I've read over 25 of his novels. Phrases still stick with me, like the description of the word Haiku: 'a breath of air punctuated by a k.'
The last two I read were really disappointing, causing me to wonder if Mr. King is losing his former talent.
I don't even remember the title of the one with the broken down car at the rest stop that ate everyone who came near it while the kid at the top of the hill slept. I just didn't get it.
This last one, I just finished, The Long Walk, though. Oh my. Mr. King, i hope this isn't a trend. I felt I had to finish it out of respect.
I still love ya.

...just because someone's point of view and perspectives change and mature as they grow older, doesn't equate to "losing it"....you appear to be bouncing around quite a bit in years of release, which mayhap lends a bit of skewed feeling to your enjoyment or lack thereof, of his body of work...no-one likes everything he's written, certainly not in their heart of hearts-though they may SAY differently, but his gift is still very much intact-and broad ranging....

Welcome! :watermelon:

Not sure how something he published in 1979 can be part of a "trend."

I am a Constant Reader since 1975 and have read just about everything by SK. I recently reread The Long Walk. I thought it was amazing. Different strokes...

One reason i haven't joined forums is the tendency for personal jabs.

Hello Cheryl.
Welcome to SKMB

I personally love all his books.. some just better than others. I have heard some people who didn't really like a book years ago will read it again and just love it. Perhaps give that a try.

Hope you stick around and join in the conversations.. lots of great people here.

Hello and welcome. Been a constant reader since Carrie. As any author matures, so does their writing change. Personally I enjoy SK's works. Each book is a story unto itself. Some will like a book, some will not. I have found re reads often help change your perception. Different times within your life brings about different ways of looking at that book.

Welcome!
I didn't read Carrie until a couple of years ago.....and while I enjoyed the story, I was glad it wasn't my first SK novel. I love most of his works, but some.....meh, not so much......I'm glad he writes along such a broad spectrum of subjects. My favorites are Salem's Lot and Pet Sematary.....what are yours?

Welcome to the SKMB, Cheryl. :) Nice to have you here! Please stick around and give this place a chance...you'll see that it's worth it. There really are some great people here. And no two have the same top ten list of SK's books/stories. I completely agree with you that It is a fantastic book! But, The Long Walk is one of my most favorites as well. The Stand is not in my top ten. (Shhhh....don't tell!);;D:D

Welcome! Join the threads! There's a lot of great people on the board. It's fun to debate which books everyone loves the best, (or not) For me, "Hearts in Atlantis" just hasn't quite met my fancy enough to get through reading. To each his own, I think. "It" is my top favorite, besides "Needful Things" I would suggest, if you haven't tried. There's so many perspectives in that one too, but all wanting the same thing.
