It is turning into a definite No for us. :( The youngest wants the rest of the clan to come out and share a beach house on the Oregon coast for a week in mid-July.

Although I'd wished to make it to the opposite end of the country, this offer itself isn't all that bad.
Ew - the Devil's post (#666) - just kidding - I'm not all that superstitious

Since you made it to the one in 2016 in Colorado (and I could not!) I was sort of hoping to meet you :D:cry_pig:

but it's understandable that a beach house on the Oregon coast with family is more preferable at this time.

I still have not made any travel arrangements for this summer to Maine but I at least now have the name of a good travel agent that I got from my hairdresser.

It's looking like it will be just me and my son, Josh, as Andy's job situation is up in the air and he won't know until the end of June if he will still be employed up in Northern Canada or not.

Make sure to take lots of cool photos if you end up on the coast!

Grandpa should watch the show Portlandia. He might change his mind and come to the Kon, instead. :)

You really have to see it to believe it. It’s funny and makes me laugh... and never ever want to visit Portland, Oregon. :)

Former "Saturday Night Live" cast member Fred Armisen and rock 'n' roll guitarist Carrie Brownstein first cracked up audiences as the internet sketch-comedy duo ThunderAnt. That led to this absurdist series set in Portland, Ore., that gently pokes fun at the laid-back Pacific Northwest city and the many eccentric characters that call it home. Among the many recurring guest stars on the series are Ed Begley Jr., Jeff Goldblum, Natasha Lyonne, Kumail Nanjiani and Kyle MacLachlan, who plays Portlandia's mayor.

Let me rephrase that - I do not mean that a beach house on the Oregon coast with family is more "preferable" - I just meant that sometimes family obligations come first. Plus you got to go to the King Kon in 2016 so there's that.

Maybe you can make the next one in 2020 - there's always that to look forward to!

Grandpa should watch the show Portlandia. He might change his mind and come to the Kon, instead. :)

Seen it, enjoyed it.

But we've been to the Portland area, too, and enjoyed it. It's a stellar place, with some exceptions. Tax rates are higher than other areas, but so is the level of service to the citizenry. It's picturesque and generally well-behaved, especially for a big metro area. The splendors of the coast and the wonders of the Columbia River and such sights as Multnomah Falls are but a short drive away.

The Youngest and his little family have come to love the place, and having visited them a few times now, we understand why. It's a great town.

My biggest objection there is not being able to pump my own gas. So annoying if you're not used to it.

All I have seen of Portland, Oregon is what was shown in a TV series called "Grimm" - but that was enough to make me want to visit - it looks like a wonderful place to vacation or even live.

Higher taxes might be worth it, if you end up with good services :adoration:

I understood. :)

The Grandsons are excited and looking forward to it. The Eldest got time off from his day job and is planning on joining in, and the Youngest is now excited about seeing the Eldest again. Quirky and bright Granddaughter is on board, so we have another driver to rotate in for the 18-hour (!) trek. We're thinking of renting a van.

They changed the law for pumping gas and the average person can pump their own gas now. I always thought it was silly that someone had to pump the gas for you.
