Do presidents usually do this kind of stuff?
If I’m not mistaken, in the past Presidents usually only poked fun of themselves at special dinners like The White House Correspondent's Dinner and The Alfred E. Smith Memorial Dinner. In recent years you see more and more of it on the Boob Tube's late night entertainment shows.

George Bush senior did this kind of stuff once in a while. I think it was right after he lost his reelection bid to Clinton, he did a cold opening on Saturday Night Live where he was saying all the things that Dana Carvey would say in his imitations of Bush. It was very funny. It was like he was doing Dana Carvey doing George Bush. ;-D

That was really pretty good.

Three congenial memories I have:

1. After his first election, when he had to make good on a promise and get the kids a dog, he was asked what kind, and he said, "Probably a mutt, like me."
2. On David Letterman, talking about the home brew beer that was being made in the White House.
3. The Press Correspondents dinner where he noted that Speaker Boehner was getting a lot of heat from fellow Republicans, and he said, "I guess orange is the new black."

The Press Correspondents dinner also once featured Bush doing a double-take on himself using a Bush double. It was hilarious, and Bush was really a good sport to participate in it. ("nuke-u-lar")
