It is fun, although a rather dirty job. Never wear your best clothes to work!! Cant you listup to say you're willuing to be a volunteer on a dig somewhere near you? Or don't they use that kind of workforce over there? Would be an experience.
I don't think there's anything locally to volunteer with. It's on my bucket list, though.....someday, someway.....

Yeah i've read up on that and i will wait for further facts. They have to date it somehow. This possibly burial is fascinating but so far not proven. Taken from his physics he looks to be either an early Homo or a late Australopithecin. That he walks like us is not strange. Lucy, an Australopithecin, walked like us, but his size and brainzize but him somewhere between Homo and Aust. The First Homo is 2.4 mill years ago. The Last Lucy 3.0 million years ago. A guess then about 2.7-2.8 million years ago. But we cant date him from appearance. Before all the newspapers fly off on speculations i want a proper date and sofar i don't understand why they cant get one from the remains. They have enough bones. The first Homo was a common prey to predators, could this be something similar? Not saying that it is but there are to few facts yet to go screaming about sensation.

The Diane Rehm Show on NPR yesterday was about this. Here's a link to the transcript or you can listen there if you're interested in more information. They had links to other pieces about it as well. The National Geographic's October issue will have an article about the discovery.

I have enjoyed going out on occasion with my metal detector (but not as much anymore). I was most interested in finding items from the 18th century and prior (I live in an area that was part of the Walking Purchase), but always keep a lookout for Native American artifacts (finding mostly arrowheads and cutting tools). If I come across river stones in an area located nowhere near a river, it seems to be pretty productive. Over the years I’ve found a few strange stone artifacts that were obviously man made, of which I’ve taken pictures and sent them off to Penn State for identification. Sometimes they replied and sometimes they didn’t, and a couple items have even stumped the experts.

I see. I thought you might be interested in digging up stuff not related to said skeleton. Like buried treasure for example. That you would share with a certain charming individual of your acquaintance.........
Buried treasure could have belonged to said skeleton. I would like to dig up anyone's buried treasure. As far as sharing goes, who is the individual that you had in mind, and has he insulted me lately?
