This movie kind of feels like a horror movie but it isn't, of course. It's a great psychological thriller, though. This scene gives me chills...the entire last half does. (What are some that pop into your head?)

Don't view this clip if you haven't seen movie. Finale.

No Country For Old Men

I was so knocked off kilter from the very beginning. I was uneasy and I didn't want anyone sitting behind me. Just the look on Chigurh's face could make a stone wither.
This masterpiece is one of the scariest non-horror films I've seen. Tommy Lee Jones' dream speech at the end makes my neck hairs rise.

Silence of the Lambs. I know this will start an argument, but I don't care what decades of critics' or "Best-of" horror surveys say: it's not a horror film to me unless there's an element of the supernatural to it.

I don't think The Lovely Bones was a horror movie, but it made me uncomfortable. I never felt the same about dollhouses after that. The woman in Hereditary was a dollhouse maker too. Annabelle was also about a doll. I think it must be a common theme or something.

Looking for Mr. Goodbar upset me terribly - I watched it sometime after I graduated high school - maybe 1988 or so - and then I discovered it was based on actual events, very distressing - the sudden horrible violence of it.

And around that same time, I watched Dead Ringers - that one too was just nothing - nothing - nothing - and then OMG What are they doing!!!
I felt like I needed to go wash my soul off somewhere after each of those movies.

I've never seen Looking For Mr. Goodbar. I've heard of it, though. The other one is new to me. I want to see them, now.

You have standards. That's good. I'd agree with that somewhat, although I don't know exactly what my criteria would be.

I do admit that it's mostly my inner snob at play here, as there are many psychological-based thriller films that can be classified as horror. Get Out, for instance, is an example that treads that fine line. To me however, it was a particularly good Twilight Zone episode.

I'm an 80s kid. Give me a good old demonic possession or monster any day. Everything else falls into the Thriller category.

The Paperboy. Based on a novel by Peter Dexter, directed by Lee Daniels. Stars Matthew McConaughey, Zac Efron, David Oyelowo, Macy Gray, John Cusack and Nicole Kidman. I guarantee that you will not look at these actors in the same way again. There's a sense of sick dread through the whole thing, culminating in a horrific ending that will leave you shaken. Matt plays a southern lawyer hired to prove Cusack is not guilty of a crime. Lots of surprises along the way from most of the characters.

Awesome. Never heard of this one. I'll look for it on Netflix.

Totally agree on both of those! Good choices.
