I think Woody is probably guilty as hell and am appalled at Hollywood's willingness to look the other way, but I think they are being too hard on our boy:

Stephen King Tweets About Dylan Farrow and Woody Allen, Sparks Outrage | TIME.com

I didn't read his tweet as a defense of Woody or blaming the victim. I hope this doesn't make him back away from twitter.
This is why I'm not a fan of social media, things can (and will) be taken out of context, or be misunderstood and then oh dear, it's open season on the 'author'. (of the post)

Man I wouldn't want to be one of the mods for all the tea in China tomorrow. Perhaps Ms Mod should put Stephen on double secret moderation on his tweets for a time.

Been there, done that, won't be the last time I've been up to my tush with alligators when it's hit the fan from something that was said that came out in a way that wasn't intended to be taken in the way it was. That's why I get the big bucks. ;)

What did he actually say that was so misconstrued?
He responded to a Tweet, saying to that Tweet, "Boy, I'm stumped on that one. I don't like to think it's true, and there's an element of palpable bitchery there, but..."

I'm not being a loyal fan, but I am sitting and watching to see how it rolls out; I knew he would own up, though. If you've read his books (as I'm sure you have) it shows that he has a great deal of respect for women.

Keep your opinions off the media, kids! That's what I say, at least. Wait a minute...

Twitter can be a worse than a nitpicky old gossip--some people pounce on any misstep, especially from a celebrity. There are wonderful, generous people, too; they just don't tend to be as loud.

I think the **** hit the fan when he used 'bitchery'--very N.E. word, that not everyone understands. Plus, like I said, some people look for insult everywhere.

Social media, 140 characters, mis-interpretations -- the world moved on.
I don't do twitter or FB and after reading SK post, did not take it as others have taken it.
I think Steve's reply is spot on-- his heart is always in the right place.

Hold tight, Marsha. This too shall pass. Seen this "mis interpretation" before. Some people just enjoy putting their own twist on SK words.

Define bitchery. The original tweet sounded like he was calling one or the other a bitch. So, if You think I misunderstood the word, please give me another definition.

Everything I've read about this case sounds like WA is guilty. It takes a lot for her to speak out. It must be even more difficult when the whole world is watching. A lot of famous people are speaking out defending him. (Like they were there and would know.)

Anyway, I was really disappointed when I read King's tweet. For the record, I don't look for insult and offence everywhere. I tend to give the benefit of the doubt. He has explained (I. Won't say he clarified, because personally the meaning of the original tweet is still unclear to me. He said he used the wrong word....and sorry but all I keep thinking is...what word would have been the right one.

Having said that......I'm giving the benefit of the doubt that he did NOT mean what it sounded like he originally meant.

What I read from that tweet, is that he doesn't know what to think. And I see no crime or disrespect in that, as I don't know what to think in that case either.
He didn't call anyone a bitch, and I am sorry that people read it that way.
Since so many people had responded in a negative way, I chose to send my support to him. I am on twitter just to follow Mr. King, so that was my second tweet, ever.

Just remember there are three sides to every story: Her side, his side, and the truth. Before people automatically assume Woody Allen's guilt, realize that he may not be guilty of anything other than being a man, a rich man who blood suckers would love to take to civil court.

I don't know the facts of this case, but I am not ready to see Woody Allen on the sex offenders site.

Mr. King is guilty of a poor choice of words, and being honest about saying he doesn't really know the facts. Neither do we. I'll be honest about the Woody Allen/Farrow situation. I hope it isn't true either. It isn't because I like Allen or dislike Farrow. It is because I'd like to believe a child wasn't molested. Can you blame anyone for hoping that? The lesser of two evils would certainly be a cruel lie. If I were a betting man, I'd say that Mr. King regretted the wording the moment he hit the button. He moved to correct himself but internet beast had already broken from the tall grass and was bearing down on him. The only thing that matters here is someone misspoke, realized it, and apologized for it.

My impression after reading the tweets (and then the article he had commented on) was that he'd meant the article held an element of bitchery. [read: aggression] I hadn't seen that as him referring to either of the Farrow's at all.

The saddest thing (outside of the Allen/Farrow situation) is, that if you're a well known person/celebrity you can't make a mistake (just like anybody else that has ever moved upon this earth and learned to communicate with others) and be allowed to say 'whoops, I didn't quite mean it that way'... without it becoming news.

And that word comes from the pool he talks about in Lisey's Story. Too bad that his love of words got him into trouble...
“It's the pool where we all go down to drink, to swim, to catch a little fish from the edge of the shore; it's also the pool where some hardy souls go out in their flimsy wooden boats after the big ones. It is the pool of life, the cup of imagination, and she has an idea that different people see different versions of it, but with two things ever in common: it's always about a mile deep in the Fairy Forest, and it's always sad. Because imagination isn't the only thing this place is about.”

In this instance there is a fourth side. The law. Charges were not laid because it would have required a 7 year old to testify...and be cross examined. A 7 year old deemed fragile. The law also decided daddy dearest would not be allowed any visiting rights with her.

Then he left with her sister....another girl he had been daddy to, and lived in a husband/wife relationship with her. (I realize she was of legal age when they moved out....but how the f do you do that with a young person you were parent too?)

Since so many people had responded in a negative way, I chose to send my support to him. I am on twitter just to follow Mr. King, so that was my second tweet, ever.

I follow him on twitter, but don't regularly go there. I do follow him on fb. I chose not to respond to his original comment at all. And when I saw his apology on fb I chose not to respond there. I would not have raised the subject here, and only commented initially because, as I said, I don't look for offence, but did feel the initial comment was offensive.

And when famous people choose to comment publicly on news or politics, they must expect their comment will become news, it's why some do it. Jenny macCarthy knows nothing of medicine or autism, she has a son who is not and never was autistic. But, yet, because she's an actress, somewhat famous, she convinced thousands of parents not to vaccinate their children. That's just one example...there are many.

King does sometimes speak publicly about news. (Remember Guns?). And since he is a wordsmith it's not surprising that he would. And whenever he speaks it becomes news. His very first tweet was in a news articl, so of course his tweet about a current news article is going to be news.

There was a thorough investigation 20 years ago and no charges were ever brought.
