I stumbled upon this link through a posting over at the observation deck:

What do you all think about the list? The task of ranking such things is subjective to opinion from the get go. I myself do not necessarily agree with the rankings but I give points to the author for making an attempt.

I certainly didn't agree with every ranking, but it was a wild ride to read :) CYB, I'm thinking about your comment, and while I agree on one level--it was an easy choice (IMHO, Lisey's Story is his most well-written book)--maybe that's exactly why it needed to be #1. The Stand has had tremendous influence in American (maybe outside, too) pop culture and our cultural undermind. I know that I find echoes of that story, some subtle and some overt, everywhere.

Thought we could edit posts on the new board. What am I missing? I was going to try and fix the first link. I am not sure what happened.

I think you have a "window of opportunity" - maybe 30 minutes? After that it's pretty much permanent unless you ask a moderator to help you correct something.

I find The Stand to be derivative of many dystopian novels that came before it. There is nothing in that book that surprised me or made me go "hmmmm" that I had not read before in some way, shape or form. That is one of the reasons I am not a fan of the book. I feel like many of those "echoes" you speak of are really echoes that started way before you read them in The Stand. But that is just my opinion.

I enjoy lists like this. I think you have to go in realizing that you are probably not going to agree with the list. I'm always interested in what others think of books, movies and music that I like. When we make similar lists on this site, we have some very different ideas on what SK's best works are and there is nothing wrong with that. I'm always intrigued when my least favorite book is someone's favorite or vice versa.

What link would you like to have there instead?

Didn't realize there was a time limit to the editing feature. Thanks for asking Ms. Mod but it seems like everyone if finding the list with no issues. The first link was supposed to go direct to the original source of the list. The second was the link to were I found the list. All links seem to go to the same place though.

It made me realize I still have so much more to read - yay! Right off that bat I had to disagree - Insomnia, Duma Key and Rose Madder ranked way low and they were some of my favorites.

I totally agree with you! Instantly disagreed with where Rose Madder was placed. The only way I can look at it is to think how highly it speaks of SK's writing abilities if Rose Madder is him 'dropping the ball' so to speak.
