Evening All, I finished reading Pet Semetary for the first time a number of days ago and found myself with some questions. My search led me to this forum. Who knew? What a great resource! In any case, I'm simply glad to live in a time and place where King's works exist. Jake says, "There are other worlds than these," and I hope they all have Mr King traipsing through them. It's not simply his talent across such a range of material, but also his ability to connect each Constant Reader with his characters and their worlds. For me, it's the last part that makes his works both frightening and joyful. Because, sure I'd like to see myself as Roland or Stu Redman, but maybe I'm a bit more Jud Crandall or Louis Creed around the edges. He shows the best and worst of the human condition, sometimes in the same person or character arc and sometimes that person walks and talks a lot like me. Anyway, suffice to say I enjoy his work immensely.
Oh, and Pet Sematary. Wow, this was dark. I loved it, but I kept hoping for the story to turn right or left, for the character's sake at least. Nope, it went down a deep, dark hole and took all its people with it. I mean the convo between Gage and Jud near the end tasted like a pack of Marlboros and a sick pack of Coors do the next morning. Great work.
