So I watched "The Conjuring" recently. (I know I am late to the game on this one as it's been out for awhile, but as someone who can get her new movie fulfillment through HBO, it takes a little longer) This one scared me. It's a good old-fashion based on a true story ghost story. Wow!

Anyone else watched this? Is there any recent movie that just had your heart thumping?

I have to say "Mama" was another one, but it was more sad later than anything. At first it was scary and then turned downright a cry fest.

I can't say that they scare me. If movies have trailers where there's nastiness jumping in from off camera, or someone obviously about to get shredded, or a girl or a kid whimpering and terrified in a dark corner, it looks unpleasant to me, and I don't plan to go.

I guess because the graphics are so much better these days, some remakes really scared me: Halloween, Amityville Horror - both of those remakes were, I thought, terrifying. Of course, I was very young when I saw the originals, so those scared me too. It's not exactly new, but Mary Reilly scared me terribly. I get goose bumps just thinking about John Malkovich whispering "Mary Reilly".

I did think The Conjuring was pretty good too, notebookgirl. Stay away from the sequel to it though called Annabelle. My son said it was awful.

I also thought some of the Paranormal Activity movies had some good jumps in them..........

I like that one, too. I've liked a number of modern Japanese horror movies.
I reread this and realize that what I wrote sounds as if I think Final Destination is a movie from Japan, or that I might be thinking of a movie from Japan with the same or a similar title.

What I meant is that I like Final Destination...

Final Destination (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

...and that also I like a number of modern Japanese horror movies...

One Missed Call
Reincarnation
Ringu
Dark Water
Ju-on: The Grudge

Thanks for the note. I was thinking about renting that. That doll was spooky. They made it scarier for the movie. It was really a Raggedy Ann Doll

Hi!

I liked all the suggestions above.

Old, old movie we saw and scared the bejebbers out of us...

The Brood.

A man tries to uncover an unconventional psychologist's therapy techniques on his institutionalized wife, while a series of brutal attacks committed by a brood of mutant children coincides with the husband's investigation.
