I dislike it when people you really do not know make friend requests on face book. I feel awkward.
When I get a FB Friend request like that I check the individual's page to see if we have any mutual Friends or common interests, as the request might be legit. Usually I find that I don't want to Confirm, so I don't and when FB asks if I know the person or group I answer "No", and FB says they can't contact me again. I frequently get Friend requests from someone who's posted the profile pic of a hot babe. There's no telling who the person is or where the request came from.

What little thing bugs you?

For me, it's mispronunciations and poor grammar.
:choler:
"This is a picture of my friend and I."
No it's not. Nobody would say "This is a picture of I."
Or
"I could care less."
Well, if you could care less, that means you actually do care.
Or, my favorite, when somebody says "Nook-yoo-lar" instead of nuclear.
:m_spicy:
What's yours?
Actually, the word "nuclear" isn't the easiest word in the world to get right every time. It has to do with throat muscles. Just listen to Tom Brokow try to talk. Meanwhile, I have a problem with the use of the word "less" when "fewer" is the correct word. On FB, I actually correct posts that are grammatically inferior.

My pet peeve is drivers who aren't me.
They always pull out in front of me, then turn 1/2 mile down the road.
They're always driving WAY too slowly.
They won't get out of the way to let me merge onto the Interstate.
They drive 15 miles under the speed limit on the two-lane road; then when it turns into a four-lane, they go the actual speed limit.
They drive slowly in the fast lane so I have to pass them on the right.
And did I say how slowly they drive????????
I live in Atlanta GA, where more people are using a cell phone while driving than anywhere else in the world. My primary per peeve in life is the individual driving in the far left lane more slowly than other traffic is, especially on the interstate, and especially if they're on a cell phone while doing. I won't pass them on the right. It's positive reinforcement of negative behavior. Instead, I harass them, and it's fun.

I think it gets under my skin so much because it sounds like a derogatory term. But I really don't get why they use it on the weather reports. :biggrin2:

My guess and it is only a guess is that the weather reports have to do w/...drum-roll....climate change...and as a way to highlight that idea...to emphasize the idea...to make it fashionable...they say Deep South. That...or they're trying to appeal to the cracker audience. :)

I think it is more about how we just mindlessly say things we've heard (and yours truly is as guilty of this as anyone :biggrin2:) without really knowing what they mean. The phrase started out referring to states that succeeded (I read this on wikipedia so don't quote me :biggrin2:) and then kind of morphed into a label for the Senate Democrats (and the area they represented) that voted a certain way in the South. The label seems to refer to those Southern Democrats that opposed the civil rights issues in the 60s. Strom Thurmond lived in the Deep South, not me :biggrin2:.

I wonder where the expression "pet peeve" came from? Who was the original pet peevert? Was it a male or female or some combination thereof? A French king maybe? An honest plumber from Sheboygan? Perturbed about plastics? I had a pet peeve the other day but I forgot it now...I think it had to do w/driving...had this guy...or gal...coming at me in my lane the other day. But it wasn't that...that doesn't happen that often. Could have been people who insist on driving everywhere w/their brights at night. Or I know what it was...there was this once I'm headed out of the bush, coming down a two-track hill, bounce onto the asphalt, dark-thirty...head out on Nightingale Drive, full dark no stars, headlights coming toward me...and...they wait till we're almost bumper-to-bumper and they flash their brights in my face. GAAAAAAAAA! Have had variations of this happen numerous times...other drivers who think I've my brights on...has happened w/each truck I've owned. Lights are higher than a cars so it appears the brights are on. I'd gotten to the point where I ride with my hand on the bright switch...you get the flash from the other vehicle, the courtesy flash...brights a quick second...and I return the courtesy, flash them my actual brights so they can see I had my dims on. Whew! Glad to get that off my chest. Maybe I'll sleep better tomorrow...or today I meant. I'll sleep better today. :)
Goes back to the 14th-century word peevish, meaning "ornery or ill-tempered." It's actually a verb, too. To Peeve somebody off is to cause them to be irritated or foul tempered. I'm sure I do it to people all the time. LOL!
Somewhere along the line, somebody added the word "pet" to downplay the peeve, to make it a minor irritation.
Don't even get me started on people and their driving. My tall guy has bouts of road rage that make me want to climb out of the car and walk. Or make HIM get out of the car and walk. It's freaking IRRITATING, and potentially unsafe.

Here is a grocery store pet peeve (I have several of these but we will take them one at a time). If anyone on the board works in a grocery store and can explain this, I would love to hear it.

We buy most everything at Publix, a super nice grocery store that is mainly in the Southeast but I see this practice at other stores. I am going to pick one item and brand to explain this but I see it with other items and brands too.

My favorite regular price range coffee is Eight O' Clock brand. Eight O' Clock makes several different flavors like Hazelnut, Vanilla, etc. Being the crusty old guy that I am, I just prefer the original regular coffee. I will drink an occasional flavored coffee but I prefer regular industrial strength black coffee for my daily consumption. My issue is that most everyone, like me, prefers the original coffee but the store stocks just as much of all the other flavors. It appears that no one much buys the flavored ones as the original disappears off the shelf rapidly. So when I try to get coffee (especially when Publix puts it on sale) the original is always gone or in low supply and the shelves are full of this other crap no one wants. So, WHY don't they stock more regular coffee than the flavors? Is the manufacturer making them do this?

My guess would be that the Publix chain has some deal with that coffee brand and flavor. It's why some things are showcased in the main area of the store from time to time (although I do think they do that to get rid of stuff they don't want to carry anymore too) but I do think there is some major wheelings and dealings going on in grocery stores from the makers of different brands to have their coffee front and center and a lot of it. Real estate is valuable there too. Location, location, location and quantity! just a guess.

Does Eight O' clock really want me buying a different brand of coffee? What happens when I go to buy regular Eight O Clock and they are out, I don't buy hazlenut, I buy a different brand of regular (like other people, I assume). It seems they are being a little hard headed in pushing the other stuff if it doesn't sell as well.

Oh I agree with you. I don't get why they do this either. Unless Hazelnut is more expensive and they are trying to force their drinkers out of the box into the more expensive box. This is when you boycott and start a movement, lol! Talk to the store manager and ask him out of curiosity his decision to carry something that isn't selling and not stocking enough of something that sells out.

has this store been doing this with the hazelnut for a long time? I was thinking maybe they are pushing it for the holiday season. Plus, coffee gets old, even when it's vacuum packed. Perhaps they have a warehouse full of Hazelnut they are trying to unload.

I understand coffee was your example -- there is politics afoot!

I have a feeling this is a manufacturer thing more than a store thing. I happen to notice that Eight O Clock coffee seems to be sold the same way in different stores, the same amount of bags of each of the flavors as the regular. Call me crazy but I would want to put out the items that sell quicker. :biggrin2:

I think they pay the stores to promote certain things. You scratch our back and we'll scratch yours type of situation.

Or, I could be making all of this up. Conspiracy.

JFK was actually shot from the produce department.

People that eat and smack their lips. People that don't tip a wave when you've let them out in traffic. People that push out in traffic, making you stop and let them out, whether you wanted to or not, and tip a wave (gee, thanks, didn't have any choice did I). People that hog the space in the "reduced section" of the supermarket and insist on spending ages looking at everything, and eventually walk away with nothing. Cling film that immediately wrinkles and sticks to itself the minute it comes out the holder (I've been known to throw a whole tube of it at a window). Many many many more things. And I'm terribly guilty of the three ...

Ever notice how long some people can stare at a package of meat without buying it? :biggrin2: Sometimes they are in the way and I go do something in another part of the store and come back and they are still staring at the meat. I feel like yelling, "HEY, it's ground beef, it all looks the same." :biggrin2: Or those pre-packaged bags of salad. I think some people are on a quest to get the perfect bag.

People that crack their gum. I freaking HATE that! There was a girl doing that at the game last night. I had to change seats.
I mean WHY??? Is the goal to look and sound like a cow? It just shows such a lack of consideration for the people around them. And it's so nasty. They might as well pick their nose or scratch their butts, and chew on what they find there as well.
