I'm a collector of Mr. Kings books and have about every one of them in hard back. So you might say I am a fan :)

The first line in Mr. Mercedes threw me for a total loop. A 1997 Datsun is referenced. Datsun changed to Nissan in 1984, so I'm wondering, what's 1997 Datsun look like?

... Five years after the name change program was over, Datsun still remained more familiar than Nissan...and Glocks have external safeties, again I have to remind everyone of that....

Hi all and thanks for the welcome.

Sorry, I was taken aback by the reference to the 1997 Datsun as I've only seen really old Datsun's in the US. I haven't seen a Datsun dealer in decades. I learned to drive on an early 70's model. I assumed the story was based in the US. Guess that's what I get for assuming huh?
Welcome!

Feel free to click on this link to see even newer Datsuns (2013)

Datsun - brand new

Yes, I'm aware Datsun had brought back the name plate over the past couple of years, the name plate (I believe Datsun means "small car) in other countries but not the US. (your link is for South Africa)

Welcome. Did this detract from your like or dislike of the book?

lol, I was not going to say anything but...

An Amazon reviewer mentioned this in their review. I personally know zilch about Mercedes lol The Mercedes model number is wrong. The "SL" is a two-door convertible and the "500" is a V8, not a V12. The car he meant to describe is the S600.

Welcome to the boards! :)
Actually, I'm not sure at all that the "mistakes" are mistakes.

Can't speak to the Datsun/Nissan thing, but it seemed from the afterword that he was distancing himself from using an actual Mercedes model. Maybe the same is true for the Datsun--no appearance of dissing or negatively branding an actual car model?
