I was very shy growing up. I used to hide under the bed when my parents had folks over.
I think it's kind of showy. Please forgive my assumptions if you've done this - maybe you had the best intentions. But it seems to me, these days, so many people live to put their lives on facebook or other social media. If it's done sincerely, it's not a bad thing really. But if the party being proposed to isn't sure, it certainly puts them on the spot to act according to how everyone expects them to act, rather than to go with what they are really feeling. I think it should be a private moment.
