I've gone through this with every new King release except Revival. They had that one out. The rest I had to big enough employees until, finally, one went in the back and *ta-da* it was there!

I'm checking back after my class. It'll be around 2 or so. If it's not there then, sh*t is going down.

Ms Mod, it's the store in Jasper, AL. I dunno the store number :(
If you buy something from them the store number will be in the receipt- worked at WalMart in college, lol!

Went by my local (infamous) Walmart. Was told they won't be carrying the new Stephen King novel, and in fact he doesn't even have one coming out today. Employee refused to check the back

So let me vent my similar frustrations. I went to my local Target, a little out of the way for my lunch break but had to get the book and I prefer them to walmart anyways. I have never had a hard time finding any new SK release at either wally world or target, usally have a nice display or at very least plenty of copies on new release shelf so I can pick thru them to find the "perfect one".
To my disappointment after searching the entire area where the books are and any other place that there might be a special display set up, I see nothing. NO spot, no tag, no anything. Only copies of Finders keepers, Mr. Mercedes, Dr. Sleep and Revival. I search out the employee, ask where might I find the new SK release at? He then goes to the book area that I have already searched, I inform him that the book is nowhere around here, but still patiently wait for him to look on same shelves and places I already have. Then he informs me that he "Doesn't think that there is a new SK release today and ask if I am sure"
This is where I start to get impatient, not from the lack of locating the book, as I am sure they are all still in boxes in the back, unopened (later confirmed) but at the sheer response that is so automated these days with people. Lets break this down, HE does not think there is a New SK book being released today??? This leads me to believe you have some insight into the release and insinuating that I have bad info on the release date. When indeed its pretty safe to bet that this person truly just don't have a clue and the proper answer would be, I'm sorry I just don't know, let me call my manager. If I did not persist that would of been the end of the conversation and I would of been on my way, no book in hand. But I pulled up the target webpage with the book and item number on it while he was looking in the same spots I had already looked in. Showed him, then he was able to look up that indeed they had many copies of the book but no "location". I said the store must of forgotten to put them out today. He then checks in back, and a manager emerges with a copy in hand. I thank her, and as I am walking away I notice that the cover is scratched and one corner looks like it was dropped on the floor. Now I am super picky about my book purchases and hate a damaged book. I also cant stand those stickers they put on the covers (20-30% off) I politely ask her if she could bring out a box for me to choose from as I like to collect and this was damaged. She was very nice and brought out a lot, said she understood collecting and was patient while I looked thru them for my idea of a perfect book. I ask her why they were not out today or on display. She said they had been busy and backed up and had no time to put them out. I thought what a shame. I mean how long would it of really took them to get some out on floor if I had not ask about it? There wasn't even a spot for it. But the good thing is that they brought about 20 or so out for sale after I ask about it.
So long story short. I got my copy. Its a nice copy. The cover is great and has a nice "feel" to it, for those of you that have your copies already you know what I am talking about. It has a satin like texture in the black. Looks great but is subject to easy damage, just a simple scrape of your fingernail or a slightly oily hand and that cover is marked for life.
Cant wait to dig into it!!

Wow, sorry for all you guys having trouble finding the book today!

I reserved a copy at my local bookstore but cannot go get it til tomorrow. Planning on being there right when they open, though. :)

This is the first time I have reserved a copy so I am not quite sure how that works, other than I am supposed to take my little coupon/receipt thing to checkout. So I will go pick out my copy, like I always do and hope that is what I am supposed to do, not that they have the reserved copies stashed somewhere. I like to pick the one that is to be mine.

Reserving a copy should also give me a discount above the $5 reservation fee too.

Went back to my Walmart. Got yelled at by the vendor and told "Stephen King does not have a new book coming out!"

Went to Sumiton Walmart. Was told release day has been pushed back to the 28th.
I'll pass that along to Scribner as well. Thanks for letting me know. Hopefully the sales department will be able to get them straightened out but I'm sorry you've had to deal with this frustration in the meantime.

That's crazy! I hope you get the book today. :)
Thanks Ms. Mod!

I finally located a copy at K-Mart-- grabbed the last one. I'm ready to go home and enjoy this thing already. :)
