I remember a time a while back when he was just a symbol, with the artist formerly known as prince. A weird time.
When he and his (at the time) wife appeared on Oprah, she asked him what his mother-in-law called him when she wanted his attention. He said 'Hey, you!'
He was at his happiest point in his life then- married and out from under his 'contract' with Warner Brothers (they screwed him over royally but I won't go into that!). I've never seen him smile so much as during this particular time. The triple album that he released during this time (entitled Emancipation) has some of his most beautiful songs on it- every song is uplifting and you can hear the joy in his voice on every track. It also has a song that has the sound of the heartbeat of the baby that was lost. I dare anyone to listen to 'Soul Sanctuary' and not be moved. He also did a beautiful cover of Bonnie Raitt's 'I Can't Make You Love Me'.
