Okay. I will attempt to lay out my real reservations, and if the upcoming movie (late 2015?) is a dazzler, I'll happily eat my own words.

Mark Hamill. I have the most hope with him. He's a talented voice guy, and he seems to have kept his enthusiasm strong in the industry. I think he could make a good Elder Luke 30 years into storylilne.

Harrison Ford. Grandma has the biggest crush on him, and I can understand why. He's been the rakish, capable Everyman. (She also likes Sean Connery, and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was movie nirvana for her.) I've liked him, too (The Fugitive - wow!!), but he hasn't done much lately to talk about, and while she was willing to give him a pass on the last Indiana Jones, I wasn't, and my confidence in him is shot.

Carrie Fischer. I don't know how active she's kept. The last couple times I saw her, I think in interviews, I wasn't thinking, "Oh, cool." I was thinking, "Oh, my," and it wasn't in a completely complimentary mindset.

Star Wars. The franchise is tired. It was pretty played out by the end of Jedi, and even though I was trembling with anticipation with the new start in Episode 1, my eagerness quickly degraded to semi-indifferent semi-interest. I watched them all. Doubt if I'll watch them again. To cross over a phrase from from Star Trek, the best toast I can give the franchise is the Klingon, "Die well!" But I'm afraid it's too late for that.

And speaking of crossovers....

Abrams. I know there are people here who thrilled to the Star Trek reboot, and they are certainly welcome to it, but I wasn't one of them. He ruined it for me, and that's not overstatement. While I appreciate some of the finer points, particularly the casting*, the storyline was just too loopy** and merciless to the Trek world canon***, and internally unbelievable**** for me to enjoy it. And now he gets his shot at the Star Wars franchise? Lord ha'mercy.

We'll see. Confidence is not high.

destroying Vulcan? Vulcans were two-thirds of the reason I watched the show, even if the Vulcans are uncomplicated and dramatically unappealing to you, you jerk
****Miners rig up an unstoppable dreadnaught? "Red matter?" Please. And
having an orbiter just drill the big hole into Vulcan, while Vulcan (which predated Earth in interstellar flight) and the Federation just let it?
. I'll stop there. There's just too many things. I won't even mention
the spigots on the piping in engineering!!! Argh!!!

You make me smile!

The last Indiana Jones was awful, no question about it (my 8 YO loves it, though). My hope for Ford comes from Morning Glory, a more recent film. He showed a bit of his old fire in that movie--I really enjoyed him as a disillusioned, crusty old b***ard.

And I grant you everything with Abrams Star Trek reboot... but I still liked it. The casting was inspired, and I liked a lot of the snappy patter. It wore a little thin (and the story was even thinner) in INTO DARKNESS, but it worked for me the first time.

I don't hold out a lot of hope for this new Star Wars movie (time to let that expired equine rest), but if they're gong to keep lashing I hope they make the best horse jerky possible :)

Hey! You be nice to my crusty old Harrison! ;) Han Solo ruined a whole generation of women for any other man--lol. Mark Hamill will probably be okay, but Carrie Fisher... I'm leery. She was looking a lot like a little old man when she was on Big Bang Theory a while back.

Looks like she needs a drink . . .
When Harrison presented an award for the Oscars he was walking a little too stiff . . .nut swaying-swagger!

I'm not feeling this one . . .

Geriatric Galactic!
