I think for personal use it would be fine. But if they went to sell it???? That might be a different issue.Check out this quilt somebody made of Sai King's book covers. I didn't make it, I wish I'd thought of it.

I wonder... does the issue of copyright come up when it comes to using book covers like this?
How would a person get permission to do that? Or do they even need to?
Thanks. That quilt is for sale, but I didn't want to post the link to it because I don't think that's allowed (even though I'm not the one selling it).I think for personal use it would be fine. But if they went to sell it???? That might be a different issue.
We'll ask our professional Stephen King authority and Quilt Maker the question.

Quilt thread would have to go in self promotion.Wait... we have other quilt makers here? I'll have to run over to the Chattery Teeth board and start a thread. Woo!
Okay, cool.Quilt thread would have to go in self promotion.
There is nothing like a cat when you are laying out your quilt pieces to give a look at placement. My cats have come flying out of nowhere to slide through my quilt pieces! And of course, I am cussing them out like a sailor.
It's not finished if you haven't had to pick cat hair out of your seams yet. That's how it works at my house, anyway. And Brutus the wonder cat has LOTS of hair. There is nothing like a cat when you are laying out your quilt pieces to give a look at placement. my boys do to. and it's woven with love somewhere on everything I make. It's not finished if you haven't had to pick cat hair out of your seams yet. That's how it works at my house, anyway. And Brutus the wonder cat has LOTS of hair.
Woven with love. I like that. I'm going to put it in my disclaimer. Quilts made in a feline-friendly environment, so a few cat hairs might be woven in with love.my boys do to. and it's woven with love somewhere on everything I make.
I wish there was a tutorial of this. This would be a super cute baby quilt with kid book covers.Check out this quilt somebody made of Sai King's book covers. I didn't make it, I wish I'd thought of it.

It looks pretty straight forward. 6"x8" book covers sewn together, a 1" border of the background galaxy print, a 2" border printed with "Stephen King" and some book titles (from the covers), a 3" (maybe 4") border of the background galaxy print, and (maybe) half an inch binding showing on each side, front and back. I can't get a close enough look at it to see if it's quilted at all beyond a straight stitch binding around the covers and borders. Wouldn't be too hard to make, I think.I wish there was a tutorial of this. This would be a super cute baby quilt with kid book covers.
Dana Jean--- I would assume it is done like a tee shirt quilt. There used to be a product for transferring photos to tee shirts. One could do something similar using any book cover. Thus making quilt squares for assembly.I wish there was a tutorial of this. This would be a super cute baby quilt with kid book covers.

The artwork is owned by the artists or publishers (I don't know how that works if it's an on-staff artist) so permission would need to be granted by them although as Dana Jean said, if it was just for personal use chances are it wouldn't be a big deal.Check out this quilt somebody made of Sai King's book covers.
