Look. If they are someone special that is worth remembering, by all means let us know they died so we can reminisce about the supergood stuff they did.

We do not need a dead-thread for everyone.
Why not? Why is one person more "special" than another? If you are not interested in the person being memorialized, just don't read the thread.

Yeh I agree with Mr James on this one, the same way I think we also don't need a new thread every time it's a members birthday. I'd prefer a general birthday thread--similar to the Wherefore Art Thou thread--and each time you see a new post you'd find out by looking in to see who was being congratulated on their big day. I don't think having an overall "sticky" thread to cover these reoccurring topics (birthdays/deaths) is insulting to anyone, or makes the person being addressed any less special, it just reduces the number of threads needed to wade through to find this information.

...vehemently disagree...don't read the damn things if you're not interested...plus BJ's own "dead thread" phrasing is out of place, everyone is special in some way, and if we choose to post about them-we have that right as members of this Board, just as you have the right to post that you think they're a pain in your azz...and birthdays???...hells to the yeah, each of us should be recognized individually....gives all that care to, an opportunity to "hug" that someone on their special day, instead of listing their name in a communal congratulatory group grope...I love you both-you know that, but sheeyit!-that hit a nerve...

And again, we are adults and allowed to disagree. :smile2: I personally don't think having a sticky thread for these things recognises the individuals any less...especially for birthdays, when most people could be congratulated on their profile page. This board is over-run with threads, the amount of unread threads when logging in at times is overwhelming, and a lot of threads can be easily overlooked or become "lost" quite quickly in the new posts list when posting on the board is heavy. Sticky threads are always at the top of their relevant section so they stand out to me and I notice when a new post has been made.

I just tend to hit the ignore button for threads that I'm not interested in. It's easy enough, and those who like those particular threads can enjoy them without having to hear my pissing and moaning about not liking them.

Personally, I do enjoy the individual birthday threads. I think that simply placing them all in a general thread takes something very important away ......It's like sending people through an assembly line, and giving everyone a happy meal, when some folks really need or want a cookie.....or an unpublished photo of Johnny Depp, or whatever....

Our minds are becoming less than 140 character things! It's like we don't have time to be human anymore. I love the birthday threads and I want to hear about deaths.

Let's just not talk anymore. All we can do is a thumbs up or thumbs down like Joaquin Phoenix in Gladiator.

We honestly don't have the time anymore to reach out to another person and make a gesture of goodwill? We can't give some person (famous, infamous or just a regular schmo) just one final moment of thought in a thread that will get buried in a week and never thought of again most likely?

Ignore them. I totally understand those who find these irritating. Absolutely. But personally I like the individuality of it.
