I don't know how universally well known the actor and comedian Rik Mayall was, but he died today at the young age of 56. He will certainly be missed here in the UK, thanks for all the laughs Rik.

Can't believe he's gone!! And no mention on the news tonight how he passed. Such a shame.
I can't believe it either, I bawled when I saw this thread this morning... and then phoned my Auntie. We used to sit in her lounge and smoke and play Yahtzee while endless Young Ones episodes played in the background. We would quote them ALL of the time, it used to drive people batsh1t to be around us.
After watching Mr. Jolly Lives Next Door, I named (my best friend) my kitten Mr. Jolly... he was with me for nearly 16 years and when he was lying in my arms dying, the vet asked me if he was named after the movie.... I cried and said yes, and we talked about Rik and the others.. and we sang a bit of "It's Not Unusual"...
And we quoted the line... "Just because my name is Mr. Jolly, doesn't mean I have to be f'kn jolly all of the time..." (which came up once in the vet clinic when my cat had woken up pissed after an op'... long story, very funny and a bit embarrassing.)

I can't believe he is gone... Rik and Viv and Neal and Nigel and CLIFF RICHARD! *sigh* I am so sad... :(

The Darkside of the Moon (England really)
British comedy just got a whole lot more boring. Rik's creativity and presence was just something else. I just love the young ones and bottom, have the box sets and a few Bottom live dvd's. One of my favourite scenes was from bottom, when Rik and Eddie are on the Ferris wheel.

I love Ade Edmondson's tribute:

"There were times when Rik and I were writing together when we almost died laughing.
"They were some of the most carefree stupid days I ever had, and I feel privileged to have shared them with him.

"And now he's died for real. Without me. Selfish b*****d."

Check out the laughs the pair of them get just by looking at the crowd.

A sad day indeed, RIP Rik.

I love that episode, I love how non pc it was, you could not get away with half of the stuff they did these days, one example from that very episode:
rik: ha, caught you using my ketchup on your cornflakes
Viv: well I had to, I couldn't get to the milk in the fridge
Rik: why what are you? A spazzy?
