I had mice in my house once. I was freaked. I was alone except for my dogs.
Husband had left by then..
Farmer behind the house had cut down his corn. And they came a runnin.
Cute, at first. I would get my little humane trap and drive them to a field. (screaming all the way at the scratchy noise it made) and release.
Then .... they all showed up. OMG! I thought I was safe upstairs. One morning I woke up to my dog nosing the glass on the table beside the bed.
In it - floated a mouse!How long had it been trying to swim?
What if I took a sip in the middle of the night?
They got into my jeep in the garage. I would have to slam the doors in the driveway and watch them run out. AHHH
I had to get the de-con after that. And that's when the real nightmare began....
Get some natural peppermint scent, soak some cotton balls with it. Scatter them around where you've seen mouse sign. This should repel them.

Apparently I'm the only one who saw the movies Ben & Willard...two separate movies, single name title. Spank me now. Craziest thing happened...I pull up to the house at the time I said I'd be there...get a bunch of junk out of the truck, thinking, get in, get out, get it done. After moving the kitchen table to access the trap door to the crawl space, I climb down the five or six steps, about like going down the ladder into Ops berthing only it didn't smell half as bad. Armed with the spray-foam insulation...pull the chain and the single bulb is illuminated, cobwebs here and there...4 almost empty trays of De-con...not a comforting thought...though I know, too, that the mice stockpile that crap for later consumption. Crouch down and kneel into the sand...it's a dirt crawlspace as I said...and approach the slope of dirt where all the holes are just past the boiler...gas hot water furnace...and here's the amazing thing.
The rodents had made their holes smaller. Day before...or maybe it was after a few beers...but those holes were big. That square hole I mentioned? Yeah, forgot the camera, too...could have used the phone but I left it in the truck and besides I wouldn't have a clue how to get pics from that to here. Anyway...there I am ducking under the boiler exhaust pipe, squinting, in full Eastwood-mode...spray-foam gun in hand, a spare cylinder of foam in my right. I squint harder, cause the darn holes are smaller! How'd they do that? I wonder...sneaky little ba@tard@. I have to crouch lower to make sure I'm in the right position...but the square hole is a tad smaller...as are the other holes. I'm guessing some mouse sympathizer gave em a call...tweeted them or something. So...I filled about six of seven holes with foam, sealing them in...not like they can't chew their way out...but that gave me time to get a line in for the microwave, Square D breaker...these bloody cups are uncomfortable. Heh! There was this once, little brother finds my old hockey cup in the basement...comes out with it...and a football. I found a tee! he's all excited, placing the cup on the sidewalk, Ma over in her flowers cackling, the old man by the tomatoes, clueless. Little brother is trying to set the football in the cup. Onward and upward.

Well, my internet is kinda screwed again (not as bad as last time, just a storm), so in case I don't get to post tomorrow I figured I'd say where I am gonna be for a couple of days after tomorrow, so y'all don't think I've ditched the board (I'd neeevvvvverrrr do that).
I'll be at a school leadership camp, doing leadership things. Here's hoping it doesn't bring out the inner dictator in me
