...and I woke up laughing about it. I still get the chuckles as I think about it. Let me also say this was one of those dreams that was so vivid and realistic that when I awoke, it took a few minutes to realize it wasn't real.
Here it goes:
I was at my mother's house in Oklahoma. In front on the house, about 100 yards down a hill, is a large oval shaped pond, with its longer edge parallel with the house (this is true). I was looking out the front windows at the pond and talking with my brother. I noticed something moving rather quickly on the surface of the pond and grabbed some binoculars to get a closer look. It was a boat, with 4 squirrels in it. All were wearing Gorton's Fisherman style, bright yellow rain coats and hats. They were rowing frantically and going so fast across the pond it was leaving a good sized wake.
I laughed and looked at my brother. I asked him "Is this for real? Do you see that?". He answered "Yeah, I can't believe it, but yeah, I see it!" we both just started laughing. I said something about it seeming like a dream and my brother basically said no and that he was thinking the same thing at first. I decided we need to go down and get a closer look.
Let me add here that my mother has two dogs: Dude (a huge 160lb blonde lab) and Brent (brindle coated pit bull, but kind of a small dog).
So I go towards the pond and immediately it becomes clear the hill down to the pond has turned into a mountain now and it is a LONG way to the bottom. I start running and it seem like it's further away. Just as I am thinking this, I am suddenly there at the pond. The pond has natural ridge along the back of it (fact) about 15-20 ft tall, but the ridge was at least a hundred feet tall now. I climb up it and notice a flag planted at the top of it.
As I am looking at this flag (which I couldn't make out) I noticed a huge blanket spread out on the ground in front of the flag pole. I also notice is is moving and fluctuating like something is under it. I grab the edge and pull it back. Underneath is my mom's dog Dude with 5 other labs that looked just like him, wrestling around and barking and acting crazy.
I yell out a "Hey!!" and they all take off running and scattering everywhere, barking and going crazy. I yell at Dude to get back here but he runs off into the woods. I try to chase him, but wind up somehow back at the house. I go in the front door and can hear my brother playing my guitar. I for some reason knew it was mine. As I am trying to find him, I remember the squirrels in the boat. I never even noticed them when I was at the pond.
I come around a corner to find my brother, with the other dog Brent at this side, playing along with what I guess was some kind of radio. The song (in twangy, rock and country blues style.. think 'Never Been to Spain') goes "You can't trust that dirty double dealing doggone DUUUUUDE!!!". I start laughing and asked when he wrote the song. He said that he didn't. I wrote it and it was on the radio. The he turned it up and we both started laughing and singing along with it.
As I was singing, I remember thinking it was OK if the squirells were on the pond as long as they picked up their trash and left the boat tied up. It was pretty amazing they could row it anyway, so good for them. I then thought, yeah this is my song and as I was saying that to myself, I realized I was awake and had just said it out loud.
My wife was awakened by this and said "What song is yours?".
I answered "That one about Dude".
"Your mom's dog?"
".....yeah... umm I guess so."
The we both started laughing.
There ya go.
