I actually met him one time. It was at a film festival in Amsterdam. He was coming into the theatre, along with Brian Yuzna, and he was met by no one from the festival organization. So that gave me the opportunity to talk with him fairly extensively. I went through a number of films by him and we talked about those. He was a very friendly man (both he and Yuzna) and I still have both their autographs. I also remember when finally someone came from the organization and he had to go away, he still took the time to shake my hand and say goodbye instead of rushing away quickly to his duties for the festival.
I was still longing often for him to make a new film, as the last thing he did was 'Eater' (for the anthology series Fear Itself) which is from 2008, so that was a while ago. Also it's too bad that 'Stuck' which I saw at the same festival a few years later, never seems to have gotten a good release - I've never seen it since.
I pretty much like anything he did. He has a very clear directing style - I think you can tell in his films he worked for the stage too. There is more of the feeling of a play to his films, in the way he directs them, than is usual in film. I find it hard to put into words exactly how you can tell. Maybe in the way his scenes play out or the way he stages them - I just can tell somehow.
