We had one gal in our store a while back who tried to steal a pair of shoes. We use this big yellow anti-theft contraption that we attach to the shoes and if you try to take out the black cord that is looped thru one of the lace holes or try to cut it, it sets off a mini alarm that is inside the yellow thing. Well, she cut the black cord, the alarm went off, she threw the shoes up in the air and booked out the doors. What she didn't realize when she ran out the doors is that she left her cellphone behind on one of the shoe shelves. It was handed over to our security guy and he went thru it and discovered some interesting things, which he then notified the police about. She eventually came back in to get her phone. Don't know if the police ever met up with her later to ask about the other stuff on her phone.

This one actually *did* make a column entitled News of the Weird, run in alternative newspaper syndicates across the U.S. The stories in the column are straight from police blotters.

This one is special because it happened in my hometown, Nashville.

- A group of gang members walked into a tuxedo rental shop to get fitted for a wedding they were attending. Some kind of altercation occurred between the gang and one of the sales associates, and the gang members wound up trashing the place and robbing the register of about $1000 in cash.

They were all arrested later that day because they forgot they had filled out information cards for the tux rentals that included home addresses and contact numbers.
