I was reading back through the posts to try to get an idea of who has done this recently, and I got bored with it so I'm throwing out random names in the hopes that someone will be able to pull 10 questions together at the last minute! I apologize if you did it already / recently....

I've had a turn, but our numbers are finite. Sooner or later, if y'all want to keep this going, we're going to have to recycle. So if any survey virgins on the thread are too shy to step up, I can take a second lap.

Well. Grandma wants to go to bed, and right now, it's Sunday on the US East Coast, in Europe, and the western side of the Pacific Rim. So:

2. What durable good did you acquire most recently? ("Durable good" meaning something you use, like a car, computer, or shirt, not something you consume, like groceries, alcohol, or toner cartridge.)

3. How often do you pray? (If you don't pray, the answer is "zero.")

4. Rate from 0 to 10 what you look for in a massage, 0 being you doan get no steenkeen massage, 10 being a massage that calls for a pretty fair level of pain.

5. If you were isolated without real human contact, would you get by okay or get crushed by loneliness?

6. Would things run better if you were in charge? ("Things" can be anything you want where you're not in charge now.)

Grandma's asleep, and I'm still up. I'm writing a story. She's learned to give up when that happens.

Sunday Survey, 19 April 2015

1. What is the oldest thing you own?

A couple Persian rugs (that's how they were described to me - they look more Chinese) that I've ultimately inherited from my great aunt. I think they're pretty old by now.

2. What durable good did you acquire most recently? ("Durable good" meaning something you use, like a car, computer, or shirt, not something you consume, like groceries, alcohol, or toner cartridge.)

I asked this, and now I'm having trouble thinking what that might be.

Perhaps my current laptop or a backup drive.

3. How often do you pray? (If you don't pray, the answer is "zero.")

Fairly often. I don't know that there is a God, and if there is a God, that God actually listens to puny humans. But I send up to Wherever a thanks for being alive and on a lovely planet. Whether or not there's anyone to hear it, it helps to keep me grounded.

4. Rate from 0 to 10 what you look for in a massage, 0 being you doan get no steenkeen massage, 10 being a massage that calls for a pretty fair level of pain.

I'm between 8 to 10 at a given session. I spend way too much time in one position, whether keyboarding or driving, and the musculature tightens up. "Relaxing" doesn't work. "Working out it" does better. Ouch. When you get to my age, you might understand. Might.

5. If you were isolated without real human contact, would you get by okay or get crushed by loneliness?

I'm fine. I don't need other people.

6. Would things run better if you were in charge? ("Things" can be anything you want where you're not in charge now.)

For the most part, yeah, because I'm far more interested in results than proving my management philosophy. If management isn't working to make things better for most, you better change the approach of management.

7. Would it bother you if your offspring took up with someone of a different race? (If you don't have offspring, pretend.)

No.

8. You've just won the big money prize. Your checking account just increased by millions. After the celebration, what's the first thing of real value that you spend money on?

Free and clear mortgages for us and the descendants.

9. Do you tend more to want to be completely comfortable or do you think that a little suffering is good for the soul?

If you don't suffer, you don't appreciate the good things.

10. Would you like to travel in space?

More than almost anything else. Sigh.

Great questions :)

1. What is the oldest thing you own?

Some old comic books my dad had when he was a kid. Damn, Archie never bloody ages does he ?

2. What durable good did you acquire most recently? ("Durable good" meaning something you use, like a car, computer, or shirt, not something you consume, like groceries, alcohol, or toner cartridge.)

'Se7en' on DVD.

3. How often do you pray? (If you don't pray, the answer is "zero.")

Zero.

4. Rate from 0 to 10 what you look for in a massage, 0 being you doan get no steenkeen massage, 10 being a massage that calls for a pretty fair level of pain.

11. If there's no whips, it's not a proper massage. ;;D

Joking. I dunno, I'll say 5 or 6. Massages are (unfortunately) not a common occurrence in my life. In fact, they are not an occurrence in my life.

5. If you were isolated without real human contact, would you get by okay or get crushed by loneliness?

This is a question that is very relevant to me personally, and I think I would very quickly go mad.

6. Would things run better if you were in charge? ("Things" can be anything you want where you're not in charge now.)

I believe with all my heart that the things I believe in (Basically Marxism-Leninism, sans political oppression) would make things better, but I do not know if I have the competence to bring that about.

7. Would it bother you if your offspring took up with someone of a different race? (If you don't have offspring, pretend.)

Not at all, in fact, I'd say good on them.

8. You've just won the big money prize. Your checking account just increased by millions. After the celebration, what's the first thing of real value that you spend money on?

A big arse home theatre, and then I'd have a homeless shelter built.

9. Do you tend more to want to be completely comfortable or do you think that a little suffering is good for the soul?

I like being comfortable, but sometimes you need bad experiences to truly become an empathic person.

10. Would you like to travel in space?

Not for long, see Question 5.

No.

A home and pay off all bills. Support animal shelters.

I want comfort now, I think I paid my suffering dues for awhile - and yes, you do appreciate things much more.

That reminds me. I do have a couple silver dollars, one dated 1900. I think the Oriental rugs are older than that, but maybe not.

A Gretsch White Falcon http://www.12fret.com/wp-content/gallery/gretsch_white_falcon_6136t_ss/Gretsch_white_falcon_6136T_ss_full_2.jpg (they can go for upwards of £10,000)

We went out with some friends who are falconers. That was a great experience.

Thank you!

Joking. I dunno, I'll say 5 or 6. Massages are (unfortunately) not a common occurrence in my life. In fact, they are not an occurrence in my life.

At your age, I wouldn't think so. I didn't get my first massage till I was in my 50s. Never wanted someone touching me that much (with maybe one exception). However, at that point in my pain-building life, it was a game-changer.

6. Would things run better if you were in charge? ("Things" can be anything you want where you're not in charge now.)

No. I need leadership, I can make a mess of things pretty quick. (like my life) :O

Got to love the honesty in this crowd.

Of course! Thank you. Hope you like it.

7. Would it bother you if your offspring took up with someone of a different race? (If you don't have offspring, pretend.) No, but I would worry about some challenges that come along with it.

That's very fair and realistic.

My daughter is married to a Mexican, and has been for 11 years now. So no, it wouldn't bother me.

And here I thought you were Mexican.

No, just kidding. I really don't form visual impressions of anyone except for what I see in their avatar. I never remember someone's race. I try to remember their gender if they mention it.

1. What is the oldest thing you own?
