"Have I run too far to get home?"

Sounds like my aunt & uncle's place. They back up to a river, not far from a lake. Sitting on their sofa, you can look out the window and watch bald eagles nest and hunt. They've had black bear visitors on their back porch more than once--lol--and deer and elk wander through regularly. It's pretty much heaven. The Wind Rivers are some of my favorite places ever. My dad wanted his ashes scattered in Wind River Canyon, and my mom wants to be there too, when her time comes. If you ever get the chance, hit Louis Lake (Christina and Fiddler are nice, too--you really can't miss anywhere near Lander). Quiet, good fishing, and for my money one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Now I'M homesick :p
Do you'll not live there anymore Skimom? I'm not location stalking you or anything ma'am, never in life, but you said your husband is formerly of Wyoming so I was just curious? Also, I copied down Lander, WY. I'll google map that later and take a look around. Thanks for the info.

Nope. Not too far, but not in WY. My dad was military, so we lived all over the place (but always went 'home'); The Man moved here for school & stayed for work. Unless you work the oil fields (not putting it down-grandpa was a roughneck for years), it can be hard to make a living in Wyoming. I still have a lot of family who live there, though. Thermopolis is a pretty town, too. Most people stick either south, around Cheyenne (dry, dusty plains), Jackson (pretty, but touristy, and HELLA expensive), or Cody (touristy, but prettier than Jackson, for my money) but there are a lot of soul-soothing areas that get very little traffic.

My husband says it, "po-PO-zha", & he's from Lander :)

I was walking to workout today, reminiscing about the trip I had up there, and suddenly, it popped into mind what I actually head and said up there, talking with people at Sanford's, just down the street from the ... Antlers? Antelope? motel.

I remembered wrong until I was away from the keyboard. Your husband is absolutely right, of course.

Pronghorn Lodge, maybe? It's been about 4 years since we were last there, so I could be wrong. I know Riverton and Thermopolis better than Lander :)

Maybe! It's been a while.

I loved Thermop. Hugely interesting ongoing dig there, and the museum punched way above its weight.

Didn't spend much time in Riverton. Didn't seem friendly.

In Arapahoe, got the best malt in the world at a place called the Yellowstone Cafe. Not there anymore.

And as long as we're talking about the Popo Agie (Popozha) falls:

CAT might be of help, ghost. She's a Wyomingite. Is that the right term?

Yup. CAT's from WY, too.

I'm in the northeast corner, coal mining country. We have the Big Horn mountains about an hour to our west. We visited Thermopolis often, when I was growing up. Other than that, though, I am only familiar with the southeast part, around Torrington. My husband grew up south of there, a tiny little town called Yoder. It is farming country there. I grew up just over the Wyoming/Nebraska line, on the Nebraska side, in a farming family. :)

We crisscrossed from Northeast Wyoming to Southwest WY the first year. We arrived in the area of Devil's Tower via Rapid City, SD. I was quite taken with just the overall feel of Wyoming, I know that sounds touristy and all but, give me a break, I'm from Arkansas:) Although I live in the Ozark Mountains, Devil's Tower was just and beautiful place but the feeling of isolation was definitely there. There isn't much around, as far as what I could tell. We passed thru several small towns and it reminded me of going back in time. Everyone we came across was so polite and courteous, so kudos to the residents of Wyoming for being so hospitable. We spent the next week or so working our way west-southwest and ended up in Jackson, WY on the western border. We then came back southwest thru Rock Springs, Laramie, then Cheyenne before crossing back into Colorado. We spent a couple of days in the Rocky Mountain National Park, our hotel was in Longmont, CO but we spent most of our time in Estes Park. We toured the Stanley House and drove over to the Continental Divide. It was the best vacation we ever took, hands down.

1. Do you have anything unique hanging on your walls?

A U.S. flag that flew over the U.S. Capitol. It's folded up, in a display case, with the accompanying certificate.

The other would be a number of my photographs. Grandma likes them. They're not remarkable, but they don't hang on any other walls, I bet.

1. Do you have anything unique hanging on your walls?
Yeah. I've got a small collection of ceramic masks obtained from an artist colony in the 70's, some watercolors done by my sister-in-law who's an amazing artist, some of my own artwork, a cell from the cartoon Dilbert, two original pieces relating to Stephen King (one from a story collection where the art was designed for his story). Then there is the garage which my wife has converted into a karaoke room and bar. The walls and the bar are our canvas dedicated to rock and roll. I draw the pictures and she paints them in. We must have over 50 iconic rock images and rock group logos painted already. Started with black and white images and now are moving into color. On one wall hangs my tickets from Woodstock and Live Aid. I don't know who more crazy, her or me for helping her.
