From the article....

There is a manual release lever safety feature next to the driver's seat closest to the door, a feature listed in the car's handbook — but many owners are not aware of it, experts said.

Guess he never noticed it. Why didn't any other diners notice him I wonder? He was there during the day not late at night. Perhaps he passed out very quickly?

I guess he must have panicked and likely heat made him disoriented quickly... it is odd no one noticed. I just saw the part of the article that said they didn't have manual locks on the car but missed or forgot the part that you caught there.... but obviously, the man didn't know about it ... it's sad ... if this car was a 2007, maybe modern cars all now have easily used manual "unlock" features? I honestly don't know ... fortunately, I believe this is a rare occurrence but still, sad...

I don't know. It says a cable came loose? One that disabled the locks and the horn? Maybe he did that to look like an accident so people didn't think he did it on purpose.... plus leaving your cell phone behind... ? Very odd.
He may have life insurance that wouldn't pay out on suicide. This is an older man, he would have just busted that window, if not for himself, for his dog. I think he did it on purpose and took the dog with him because it was old too, and no one would love it like him.

I always forget my phone at home.... But if he did it on purpose why didn't the dog bark? I mean the horn might not be functioning but the dog ought to have been rather vocal before it was finished ... or..?
