I just wanted to post my opinion on Green Mile, not introduce myself to a board, I think that is unfair and unecessary. Anyway...

I never say that the movie is better than the book, but in this case, I do.

When I was about to finish reading The Green Mile, I thought: "Wow, this is Stephen King's masterpiece". But then I read the last pages which added a ton of drama and pure exaggerated tragedy that was not neeeded. If he had ended the book like the movie ended, it would be just perfect. But why did he have to add deaths and tragic accidents which didn't affect the story? I think that King just missed the perfect masterpiece by 10 pages. One thing that the movie didn't. The movie is very faithful to the book and it cut out what wasn't needed, what was in excess, to be worth to the masterpiece King almost created.

Great movie.

Stephen King is a writer and he writes what he wants. Simple...end of story. He cannot write for others...he can only write for himself. If he had to please everyone he would never write another book. The movie producers may have told a pretty story but they used characters that came out of Stephen's head. All the sadness and desperation is only the product of an imaginative mind...they aren't real people. If you do not like the way a novel is presented, read something else.
Sorry but there is real suffering in this world. People starving or dying from illness. Your beef seems so trivial to me.
I have to ask why you think introducing yourself is unfair? Do you usually bitch about everything?

..."unfair and unnecessary"?...never heard of ya, so yeah-it's kind of customary when you come into someone's "house", to introduce one's self...AND not come in in full "bitchaboutit" mode...it's fine to not care for something, but to callously crap on our host?-way rude as hell , and that ain't "pure exaggerated" anything...it's the truth...

Great movie.

Could not have been a great movie without Mr. King's great story. But each is separate and should be viewed as such.

Introduction brings welcome and a way for others to learn something about a new person.
Sorry you did not like the book- but as Staro stated- SK writes what his muse tells him. Not all books please all people/Not all movies please people. I personally enjoyed both. However- a book is a book, and a movie is a movie. Apples and oranges.

Wow, wow....

come on guys! I didn't mean any disrespect. I loved the novel, I love Stephen King's books. I just thought that the ending wasn't nice and the book could have been the perfect one. I actually meant no disrespect to anyone.
I prefer other King's books, and was expressing my opinion on this one. I was expressing my opinion to check if others thought like me... but if you think I'm bitchin' around, so that's about it. This website is not fit for my purpose, which was to create a discussion. But if you see my opinion as complaining, well... there's nothing I can do about it.

I just came here because Stephen King wrote in "Everything's Eventual": I'd love to hear your opinion on my books, etc... go to this website"... But ok, I'll only write beautiful compliments to Stephen King from now on.

I think this "member" is a goner, possibly a flamer. Damn, but I miss people like this!
No, she is still here. (her messages were caught up in moderation (see above) as we didn't have a moderator available earlier)

I think we can probably move on and go back to discussing what we did and didn't like in the book vs movie now. :)

Personally I thought both were done beautifully, it remains one of my top for both movie and book. (a rare thing for me with Steve's work)
