And it deserves to explode- Elton John is a living legend. Such an amazingly talented man.

For no good reason whatsoever. George Michael live, singing "Don't let the sun go down." And halfway through, he introduces Sir Elton John. The place explodes. It's pretty awe inspiring.

Thanks for sharing that Lepplady!! It's been a while since I listened to that great one. Agree with kingricefan that sir Elton is a legend.

Elton John makes ANY song fantastic!
(morgan-this will probably give you nightmares! ;;D)

Neese, if he has given out his Debit Card details, you need to contact his bank as soon as possible. Windows XP is no longer supported, so yeah definitely difficult to get help there. (There are ways of doing it, but it's complicated) The other thing to do is have your son go to every web site that he uses a password on and have him change them all.
The other thing to think about, is that it could be possible for them to access your computer if you're sharing a network, passwords are incredibly simple to get around with the right program... and these scammer's will have access to them.

(I've just removed that website sorry Neese, definitely don't want them linked to us.)
No problem FlakeNoir - but just going to the website will not corrupt your computer. He took a phone call and unless you give them your ip address and allow remote access you are still safe.

I know it is better to be safe than sorry but I already was told by Shaw (our internet provider) that the scammers could only get into Josh's computer, not another one, even if they are connected with a router.

It is just how unethical it all is that gets me - the Canadian government can't even go after these b*stards as almost all of them are offshore i.e. India, Asia, you name it.

We have unplugged his computer and disconnected it. So now I either take it in to a smaller shop (like the one where it was purchased) to see if they can remove any viruses, or just forget about it and maybe get him a new laptop for Christmas.

Be sure to let the cops look at it before you do anything.
If you'd like I could talk you through a few quick fixes I'd try, even on xp.
:)

I keep trying to get into my other lappie, but so far I'm SOL. Repair place I took it to said the hardware is fine (it runs--you can hear the drive and fan going), but it's badly infected with adware and spyware. They wanted nearly $300 to fix it, which seemed ridiculous to me. If I can just get the first screen to come on, I have a Norton fixer thing (can't remember the name-Power Clean, maybe?) on a flash drive that will clean all viruses, malware, adware, spyware--basically a fresh start--but it has to be put first on the BIOS list…which I can't get into right now because the screen isn't working. *sigh* I REALLY don't want to pay the repair shop, but I might not have any choice.

We actually did try the "push F8 button as soon as it is fired up" but that solution did not work.

But thanks for all your advice!

(I think Josh and I better get to that bank, as I did not think another party having your debit card number was unsafe unless they have the four digit pin). But I will check with his bank, just the same.)

Having a special needs son is quite trying - he is so vulnerable, trusting, gullible, you name it. It is as if he is wearing a sign saying "please take advantage of me"

I suppose it could be worse. If he was a girl he would be pregnant by now :a11:

If you can get into bios, you should be able to reset the barmy thing. You might not have to pay that much for something you can do yourself.

F8 isn't the only option. Try F2 or F12. there are different buttons for different functions.
