Anyone watch? Your thoughts?

Here are mine.

First, I was very sad that I wasn't able to share the night with MadamMack as I think this was the best Academy Awards to date and we have shared Oscar night for years, it wasn't the same without you, Char.

Jimmy Kimmel was funny and honest. I thought he did a great job. I really enjoyed the addition of the jet ski and a trip to Lake Havasu as incentives to keep speeches short.

I loved the creativity of the opening black and white throwback to the Oscars.

My favorite dress was Viola Davis's bright pink dress. It was gorgeous against her dark skin. And Jennifer Garner's blue dress looked so pretty on her. Mary J. Blige's dress was gorgeous too. Jane Fonda's dress was nice on her, but I wish it would have been something other than white.

I loved The Shape of Water. It was sweet and charming and whimsical, fantastical. I'm glad it won.

I watched it last night (and I thought of you and Madam Mack!)

I felt bad for Christopher Plummer not getting the best supporting actor award, but mainly because he is 88 and it might be his last chance.

Rita Moreno looked pretty amazing, considering her age. There were a lot of actors who were up in years (Jane Fonda, Helen Mirren, Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, Christopher Walken, etc.) It seemed that Meryl Streep was the butt of a lot of jokes

Frances (best actress) [and I'm not sure how to spell her last name] sounded almost giddy up there when making her speech - I was wondering if she was on drugs or what? I liked her a lot in Fargo when she got her first Oscar years ago.

Overall - yes - it was a good Oscar presentation =D

Christopher Walken broke my heart. He looked frail. And reminded me I'm aging. hahaha! He's always been this odd, quirky man, and I think that's why I love him so much.

Meryl Streep must have the best sense of humor. I love a good sense of humor and I don't trust anyone who doesn't have one. Especially towards themselves.

As far as Christopher Plummer, if he didn't give the best performance, I don't want him getting the pity Oscar. THat's what happened the year Gary Sinise should've won and they gave it to Martin Landau. No!

Best work gets the statue, or should. And that is very random, isn't it? What I think is a good performance might not stack up for someone else. It's all whim basically. These awards are at the mercy of people seeing their work and judging it against other work. And humans are so wishy washy. Were they in a bad mood when they watched your performance? Were they multitasking or paying attention? Are they letting old judgements about old work shape their feelings about you now? It's all subjective.

Wasn't any fun without the commentary between you and Madam. Missed you guys.

I thought it was a rather dull evening as far as the Oscars go. I wanted some controversy! A nip slip! Anything! I only got about 6 categories right (which is really bad for me). I wanted Timothee Chalamet to win Best Actor In A Leading Role, as his role was the most risky and he is superb in it. I just wasn't really in to it this year, but that's probably because I had to cancel my yearly Oscar party because of the flu. Plus, there was no 'live' posts from Deej and MM either.

Aw no! No party? You always have a party. I hope you feel better soon.

I thought it was a great show. The whole feel of it was pretty good to me. Things are changing slowly, but I love to see it.

I don't have cable so my tv.. mocks me by telling me i can by the network to watch it live.. so I had to watch bits of it later.
I am happy the Shape of water won.. I thought it was good film. I am happy Jordan Peele won for the screen play. I use to watch his show thought it was funny. It was nice to see something creepy and funny win.

And it varies based on the quality of the work in any given year. In a mediocre year being good is enough. In an exceptional year you have to be exceptional.

My take-away from the Oscars: I most definitely need to watch Get Out now!
It's a good movie. I don't understand why they keep calling it a comedy horror. I saw it the first week it came out in the theaters. And while there are comedic exchanges, especially between the two friends, the story itself is not humorous. No one in my theater (which was like 5 of us) was thinking it was a laugh riot. A laugh or two here and there, but overall, a serious movie.

It’s like they just had to call it comedy because Jordan Peele wrote and directed. Like someone who’s usually funny and has a comedy show can’t be serious or something.
