Some choice bits from IMDb's trivia page:

*The Baseball Furies were created due to Walter Hill's love of baseball and the Glam Rock band Kiss.

*The film trucks were "protected" by a real gang called The Mongrels for $500 a day.

*James Remar earned his role as Ajax after becoming so involved in the audition reading of the park bench scene, that he lifted the massive table around which the director and producers were seated.

*The crew once got urinated upon from a tower block due to the noise they were creating in the night.

*When the fictitious Turnbull ACs visited a hamburger joint during filming, people fled in fear of being attacked.

*The Homicides were a real Coney Island gang, and they didn't approve of fictional gangs wearing colors on their turf. The wardrobe department made sure nobody walked off location wearing The Warriors colors. The actors were safe during the cemetery scene in Brooklyn because of a fence surrounding it.

A gang name in the script that probably didn't get a mention in the movie: The Xylophones.

Swan: You still looking for us?
Masai: [looks at Luther] We found what we're looking for.
Luther: [cowering] No. No... It wasn't us. It was them. It was the Warriors.
Masai: You Warriors are good. Real good.
Swan: The best.
Masai: The rest is ours.
[Swan nods his head in agreement as the Gramercy Riffs let the Warriors pass]
Luther: [as the Gramercy Riffs descend on the Rogues] Nooooooo!

That is the best street action movie ever made. One really big favourite.
Walter Hill made some great movies around there. The Warriors, The Long Riders, 48 Hours, Streets of Fire and Southern Comfort are all great but. He later made a gangster update on For a few Dollars More called Last Man Standing with Bruce Willis. Not as good as the Leone or the Korusawa version of the same story though. In the 90,ties he also made >Geronimo: An American Legend but his best work belongs in the 80-ties.

What I remember about The Warriors was the furor over the violence and the talk of censorship.

We actually filmed an editorial/review of this for the school news in which I got to be the "talent." I tried to write and deliver an honest, thought-provoking review, but I was 16 and couldn't help turning it into a Bill Murray impression.

Now get outta here!

Warrrrrriorrrrssss, come out and plaaaaaaay.
My daughters college sports team name is the Warriors. Every time I mention the football team, what comes out of my mouth is "Warrrrrriorrrrssss, come out and plaaaaaaay.". She looks at me like I'm from Mars and rolls her eyes. Everyone in the family has gotten some of her college's apparel. I'm holding out for a gang jacket like in the movie. :)

I actually like the lead-in to that line, where Ajax asks his buddy if he really can't run anymore and then he says "Good . . . ""
