Hello there Folken of the bleak void of internet space.

Don´t let yourself be fooled by my name as it is very random and it´s coat
leaves glittering dust of glammer in it´s wake to make it easier to separate.

Yeah to be blunt i just signed up because i wanted to hear the opinion of a broader public about some canon stuff. But well, that doesn´t mean that i have to be blunt all the time and it´s sure nice to have a place for questions of shorter livetimes to be posted before their general expiration date.

Right now i´m enjoying the second comic book of the "man in black" series and... oh how my eyes stumbled when i saw what Mr. Roland was drawing onto the floor for the poor little boy. So if anyone else knows what i´m talking about i really would appreciate a personal message about that matter and what of the three following points come closest to the "truth" if i may use that maybe inappropriate word.

I: Roland can´t quite remember anymore or he was so hasty that he just didn´t care.
II: Mr. King introduces to us the all new interpretation of the guardians of the beam.
III: Marvel just didn´t get it right or had to use another world than in all other publications.

So this is it, i kinda introduced myself and asked not some but one question.
Anybody out there caring about the guardians of the beam?

Did you use that word on purpose i.e. "glammer" - I think you have not misspelled glamour but are using another word for spell or enchantment.

Welcome and I must confess I have only read book one so far - the Gunslinger. I brought the second book (Drawing of the Three) to work today but had no time on my break to start it yet.

Excellent avatar, by the way - it reminds me of Wolverine from X-Men

Neesy: Yeah that "glammer" was on purpose and for me it means something like an enchantment to de-focus others minds.

I really tried hard not to include any spoilers and be sure to have a total different but not unpleasant reading experience with Book II.

As others sometimes say i look like Wolverine (it´s funny but not true) i started
to use pictures of him (and sometimes even of "myself as him") as avatar and yeah
he himself reminds me sometimes of Roland what also is kinda funny.

...the Graphic Novel series didn't always hew close to the original story line, and some liberties were taken to enhance their telling of the tale with King's approval...

Thanks for the welcomes, it´s much appreciated. : ]

GNTLGNT: Yeah i see that is occuring throughout the comics (and by the way i have read the books before - even in different languages).
But what then would be the point of enhancing a story through changing the order of the beam guardians (even with Mr. King´s approval)?

Alright, so what i´m gonna do now is showing you in words what that picture
i´m talking about looks like as it sure would be no good idea to post it here.

Most of you sure have seen that circle with six lines in it. The lines somehow represent an easy to
understand version of the beams and each beam is guarded by two guardians which in this case are:

Bear ---- Horse
Turtle ---- Hare
Elephant ---- Eagle
Wolf ---- Dog
Rat ---- Bat
Fish ---- Lion

This is the order starting from the top/12.00 counting clockwise:

Bear, Turtle, Elephant, Wolf, Rat, Fish, Horse, Hare, Eagle, Dog, Bat, Lion

As you see some of the pairs you usually know are paired side by side instead of opposite
to each other. But even this is not consistent so that´s what brings me here to seek answers.

No I have not seen that "Circle with six lines in it" - could you please post a picture rather than describing it? I think I am more of a "visual creature" - I like to see pictures as well as reading a description. - thanks!

Well, that's cool, Preclaimer - I've never seen it. I'm sorry I'm no help with your question - I haven't read or seen the comic (is it a comic or is it a graphic novel?). I'd sure love to run across one, but I never have. I'm a book thrifter person, so I just can't order them from wherever. I must hunt them down. But welcome here - I'm sure some of the wiser more learned ones will be able to help.

Hopefully i didn´t offend anybody. I made a quick picture with paint (please ignore the colours, they are not connected to Maerlyn´s rainbow in any way). I really don´t know if it is in any right order but at least the pairs of guardians have the "correct order" instead of the one i mentioned earlier. So, there you go:

The only thing I have seen with colours up here that mean something are the First Nations or Aboriginals here in Winnipeg - they use Red, Yellow, Black and White which stands for the Medicine Wheel

Turtles and Eagles are also very important to them.

Never seen that before but the second one looks really meaningful. :m_inspect:

HollyGolightly: Yeah actually it´s a graphic novel but as this term is rarely
used outside the US or the artist-scene i stick to comic book (if you don´t mind). ; ]

I sure don´t wanna question the superiority of the books canon-wise but i feel like the pairing of the beam guardians is something quite essential as there is few enough information after all about the... myths & beliefs of the people of midworld and Roland should be quite the expert when it comes to dark tower-related themes.

After posting first i really have hoped for an answer like "ah yes didn´t you hear they really got it wrong at Marvel but then the stuff was already in the print". Not that i prefer easy ways but it´s always better then like never finding out at all as i now believe there are only very, very few people who actually could answer my question.

Have you tried contacting Marvel directly? Or perhaps Bev Vincent may have an idea?

FlakeNoir: Contacting Marvel would be the last step i take.
I now brought the matter upon Bev Vincent as every idea is appreciated.

VultureLvr45: I like audiobooks very much but they so depend on the one who is speaking.
It really was a positive thing to listen to Mr. King personally with Twttk after reading the book.

Yeah normally i´m actual positive about changes in graphic novels or even movies but in this case it´s something different. I wouldn´t care if Roland had green eyes, i wouldn´t care the man in black wearing a suit instead of his cloak but i do care if the Bear-Turtle beam suddenly is the Bear-Horse beam (or the Turtle-Hare beam), you know.
