My first post...oh the pressure.
While the TV series is not my cuppa tea I'm certainly not here to bash on it, fans of it, or SK. I'm always glad when Mr King's hard work is appreciated to the point of offering up a movie / TV series version of anything he has created. I understand that changes are usually in order but the sheer number of changes made to the original "UTD" story are too much for me to truly enjoy the TV series. It's always been my belief that SK spends a great deal of time and effort (of which I'm truly grateful) in creating & developing his characters (esp for the bigger books) as well as the many story lines within a given tale. I get wrapped up in the story he's telling, thoroughly engrossed you might say, and finish the book completely satisfied. Then it gets transferred to the screen (big or small) and it feels like the floor has dropped out from under my feet...and not in a good way. What I always find myself thinking is: if Hollywood and the powers that be found this book to be so good, which it is, then why make so many sweeping changes? If it ain't broke (you know the rest). I think I would enjoy the series a lot more if they simply would have changed the names of all the characters. It's still a great basis for a multi-season TV series, as is evident by all the new material & characters that are constantly being added. Anyway, as you can probably tell I think it's a great book and I think I've exceeded my $.02 rant quota. I'll keep an open mind.
Cheers
