The origin of Valentines Day… In Roman times, the men sacrificed a goat and a dog, then whipped women with the hides of the animals they had just slain. The men were "required to laugh" during the ritual, and that a woman being whipped was supposedly rendered fertile. From there, a "matchmaking lottery" took place, in which men drew women's names and then "coupled" with them, or, as World Religion News put it, "acted as lovers or partners for the entire duration of the festival."
Hmmm... I may have to rethink my ‘Meh” comment. :run_pig:

....Tracy and I were just talking about this last night....we have never gone overboard with V-Day.....sometimes she'll cook me a nice meal, or I'll bring home some flowers-but overall, it's a big old "whoop-to-flippin'-do"....now, I DID order her a handmade wooden card this year-something she can keep.....

....also, I've told this story before-when Sis was little, she wanted to go to Taco Smell on V-Day, and it became a funny tradition-so Taco Tuesday it is this year...Viva La Bell!.....

I need that shirt. My man and I usually give each other books, miscellaneous items for our study, etc. on most occasions. Valentine's, we might go out to eat by ourselves or stay in and watch a movie. (We're homebodies.) I.e., I got him the first edition copies of Shogun, (his personal favorite), this year for Valentine's. :D
