So, the other day I get a postcard in the mail from the league of voting citizens or some such nonsense. It's my voting report card, and they've scored me a B, the postcard also says that I vote 50% less often than my neighbors......First, how do these people presume to know anything about my voting history at all, and do they think that they're going to make me vote more by letting me know that my neighbors supposedly vote more often than I do?? Second, since I've voted in every election since I was 18 years old, how are my neighbors managing to vote more often than I am?

I voted early today. Lots of local offices up for grabs, as well as state reps, and some district supreme court justices....
As soon as I get out of the car, at least six different people ask me if I'm heading to vote. I say yes. They then want to give me information so that I can make an informed decision and vote for the right person...... My reply today was, 'Excuse me, but if I'm actually showing up to vote, don't you think I've already made up my mind who I want?'

Congratulations; you've been targeted by North Carolina's state Board of Elections. Since you have to present your ID (and possibly a voter registration card) every time you vote, they're able to keep tabs on when you do (and of course they don't know how you vote).

My guess is that there have been some local elections that haven't drawn you to the polls.

This obviously has backfired, since it's intended to motivate someone to exercise their constitutional right to vote.

And, the Big Brother aspect of it certainly doesn't do wonders for voter turn-out.

As much as I want people to vote, I'm embarrassed by tactics like this one to get people over to polling stations.

Maybe it has nothing to do with the number of elections. Have you been voting for Democrats? :)

I haven't shown ID of any sort since 1985.....and didn't today. They do have posters up stating that Photo ID will be required in 2015.

I've voted in every single election, both national and local, since I was 18 .....still don't understand how that equals 50% less than my neighbors.....maybe they don't like the way I vote :biggrin2:

But when you do go to vote, they still cross your name off the books as having voted, even if you're not required to present an ID.

Not a heretic. You're an informed voter.

I'm baffled by their stats on you, though. If you've voted in every single election, then maybe this League of Voting Citizens is full of sh*t. It might be scare/shaming tactics instead of some ruse on the part of the NCSBOE.

In that case, shame on them.

I don't think it was NCSBOE......let me see if I can fish the thing out of the trashcan. BRB

Likely just a fishing-type ad, hoping to draw on Americans' competitiveness to get them to vote. Probably works on a lot of people, too
