Weekly Survey 2/21/16

1) How many jobs have you had in your life? Between 27 and 30. Some were short term or only one day.

2) Cilantro: delicious or disgusting? It tastes like soap to me. Not a fan.

3) Do you like to drive? Yes, long trips are therapeutic and I don't mind traffic, but I get tired of the same commute everyday and have been known to take alternate roads home for variety.

4) Have you ever been surprised by liking something you were sure you wouldn't like? Deer meat...I love it. Also, my tastes have changed lately. I used to hate mustard, pickles and sour cream. Now I like them.

5) Do you have a favorite chair? Describe it. Yes, a cushioned easy glider where I read.

6) Is there a book that's changed your mind on any subject? In Cold Blood by Truman Capote. No epiphany about the death penalty but rather an appreciation for life and living in the moment. The Clutter family were a decent, Christian family and had no idea that death would come all in one terrible night. Walden by Thoreau, too. That book reminded me to notice my surroundings more and to reevaluate my journey in this life.

7) Musical theater: love or loathe? I have grown to appreciate it more as I grow older. As a pianist I'm asked to play many showtunes and have to learn them. I really like Rogers and Hammerstein and some of Andrew Lloyd Weber.

8) Who do you think has most influenced your choices as an adult (for good or bad)? My pastor. I've seen him lose his son, survive a car wreck, and many other trials but he never lost his trust in God. He freely admits his frailties and the ways he's failed God but always uses it to show his flock that if he can make it so can they. He is a humble man and intrepid leader. When trouble comes I'm reminded of his example.

9) Is there a commercial jingle that gets stuck in your head? I don't know the commercial but it is played over and over. I hate it. "I don't care! I love it! I don't care!"

10) Do you have a favorite animal? What and why?
Since I was a kid I've liked raccoons. I still like them. Where I live there are quite a few and I feed them biscuits, cake and all sorts of things. I guess my fascination began when I was younger because they were nocturnal animals and were very rarely seen by humans. As a teen I became interested in whales and even took an entire class in marine biology where we studied whales. I still want to go to Nantucket and go whale watching.

(Not sure how I messed this up...again!)

1) How many jobs have you had in your life? Serious jobs? 3. I've topped corn, and worked thinning apricots for half a day. Then I did a bunch of computer input jobs at different doctor offices. And I did a temp job about a year ago for about 3 months.

2) Cilantro: delicious or disgusting? Delicious

3) Do you like to drive? Yes

4) Have you ever been surprised by liking something you were sure you wouldn't like? Oh I'm sure. Nothing comes to mind right off hand, but I know it's happened.

5) Do you have a favorite chair? Describe it. No

6) Is there a book that's changed your mind on any subject? I'm always learning and growing. I love reading things that challenge my ideas. Again, many things I read make me change my mind about given topics.

7) Musical theater: love or loathe? Love

8) Who do you think has most influenced your choices as an adult (for good or bad)? My mom

9) Is there a commercial jingle that gets stuck in your head? All the time.

10) Do you have a favorite animal? What and why? Cats. I like their independence, but I also love the fact they aren't afraid to seek love and cuddles when they need it. They love to nap. They love to be silly. They all have their limit of sh*t they will put up with.

1) How many jobs have you had in your life? About four. Public/Civil Servant, schoolteaching. The one I wish I stayed with was working at an Auctioneers in Sydney.

3) Do you like to drive? Not during peak hour. Four instance, yesterday I drove on Sunday morning and listened to an audio book, not too many cars on the road.

4) Have you ever been surprised by liking something you were sure you wouldn't like? Most probably but can't think of any off the top of my head.

6) Is there a book that's changed your mind on any subject? I remember when I was in my senior years at High School (I think it would have been Year 11) and I read 'The Good Soldier Svejk' also I remember reading at High School My Brother Jack by George Johnston and 'Harp in the South' by Ruth Park. 8) Who do you think has most influenced your choices as an adult (for good or bad)? My parents.

10) Do you have a favorite animal? What and why? Dogs and cats.

I could have sworn My Brother Jack was set in Sydney! Read it in 1981. I got in trouble for bringing a Stephen King book to read instead of a prescribed class text. We had a fill-in teacher for a term, and he was really good and said I could read anything I wanted as long as I showed him what it was a he Ok'd it.

I just want to say I love this thread. I love getting to know all these random things about my friends. I want to say something else toob because it's bugging me - I can't "like" all the posts I like anymore because of my stupid new laptop with the ultra sensitive spots. So just know I like them all. If I swoop my fingers or wrists to quickly my screen goes nuts. It's driving me crazy (er).

1. Have you ever laughed so hard that you shed tears? Yes-I love it when that happens

2. What is the tallest building you've ever been in, and what's the highest floor you were on? I don't know - not very tall that I can remember. The 16th floor of a beach condo. I worked on the 13th floor a downtown building once. But they didn't call it the 13th floor - it was the Penthouse, but it was the floor after 12.

3. What side of the bed do you sleep on? The right

4. Shoes, what is on your feet right now? Barefoot

5. What was the first concert you attended? Donnie & Marie Osmond when I was 9 or 10. I was so disappointed - I thought it would be like the variety show that I loved so much. I didn't know they'd just sing for Gan's sake. The first concert I went to and enjoyed was Blue Oyster Cult.

6. What is the strangest thing that you ate, and liked it? A tiny fried baby octopus.

7. Are you a hat person? No - I get too hot, but I think I look sassy in them.

8. How many internet sites do you frequent? 3, including the SKMB. I don't participate in the forums though. Here is where I do my socializing.

9. Coffee or Tea? Coffee

10. Do you have a Valentine? Oh yes, my beloved Ogre

Weekly Survey 2/21/16

1) How many jobs have you had in your life? 5 - mostly office, and waitressing and bookstore - I stay put usually.

2) Cilantro: delicious or disgusting? Delicious, but I think I'm allergic - my throat feels weird when I eat it, but my favorite salsa has it so I can't help myself. I need to get an epi-pen

3) Do you like to drive? I love to drive. I feel like I'm "in-beween" things and I could just drive forever if I wanted and just always be in limbo

4) Have you ever been surprised by liking something you were sure you wouldn't like? I'm sure I have but I can't think of an example

5) Do you have a favorite chair? Describe it. It's a recliner we've had our entire marriage, I've rocked and nursed babies in that chair for many years. It's ugly - blue with a weird pattern but I don't think I could ever get rid of it. It's also my favorite place to read and eat sunflower seeds.

6) Is there a book that's changed your mind on any subject? I can't recall my mind being changed, but I mostly read fiction. I do enjoy the different perspectives on a situation that a book can give.

7) Musical theater: love or loathe? I like Kurben 's answer - I think I'll borrow it. "Good musicals are great, bad ones can be truly horrible."

8) Who do you think has most influenced your choices as an adult (for good or bad)? My father in law

9) Is there a commercial jingle that gets stuck in your head? It's not a jingle but right now the toilet commercial is stuck in my head "No one likes a clinger". Tru dat.

10) Do you have a favorite animal? What and why? Dogs. They just make me happy. We've always had at least two. They sleep on the bedroom couch in our bedroom and I love seeing them all cuddled up together when I go to sleep and I wake up happy because they're the first thing I see in the morning. Trixie's sweet little face smiling at me, begging me to sleep in a little longer. They're just the best. It's painful when they age and have to be put to sleep, but we always get another shortly after because they bring our family so much joy. I even cook for them.
