I liked the ending. That's all I'm going to say :)
I'm finished. Loved the ending. Loved the book. The most well-written and intelligent "horror" novel I've read in a while. Although I would classify it as dystopian first before horror.

I am guessing a lot of people did not like the ending because it did not explain the "creatures" or even try to explain why things were as they were. I for one love that there is no explanation. I feel that is where SK falls flat sometimes with his endings. He tries too hard to give a face and reasons to why things happen and gets lost in the telling.

I would also classify Bird Box as a dystopian novel... which are usually a bit horrifying lol. SK's The Long Walk was the first dystopian story I ever read and I was terribly disturbed by the story.

Bird Box's ending reminded me of SK's The Mist. Like The Mist, I wanted to know more about the creatures but I was happy with the ending anyways :) I'm not sure why I think of The Mist as being horror rather than dystopian... maybe because the creatures are Lovecraftian.

GNTLGNT did mention that this one had divided the opinions of a lot of CRs. Some really liked it but others didn't care too much for it.
So far I feel it's very well written so I'll keep on going...
...you're correct Paddy, it took me several re-reads before I really appreciated the story....and that's probably attributable to being a little wiser and more in touch with emotion as I age....

Doesn't The Mist take place in the regular, everyday world? A dystopian novel takes place in a world that has "moved on" for the worse due to nuclear war, environmental catastrophe, etc.

I got done with killing floor and Midnight Mark. I got few mangas to read. I started Ten Count witch has deep story but it got naughty parts in it. Very detail naughty parts. My husband has to giggle poke fun at me for reading it. He also made fun of me when I listen to Fifty shades of gray....yeah well what can say sometimes it can be fun. Thou fifty shades gray annoyed me at times.

You're right! :) Why didn't I think of that? :(

The Mist is horror because it isn't post-apocalyptic. You're smarter than the average bear :).

I've struggled with this one. Never could finish after three tries. Guess I'm missing something.

I didn't get very far into Lisey's Story either before I gave up. It hit too close to home and I'm not a big fan of stories that make me cry. Even though time has passed and I'm in a different place, I've never wanted to give it another chance.

Today is a good day to read a book. I'm going out of town for a family Christmas get together and I have a choice to bring along a fantasy book to read while still reading Tom Clancy's Dead or Alive.

The Silmarillion or Star Wars Dawn of the Jedi Into the Void
