I loved the Silo trilogy.
Anyone who loves Sci-fi should give them a try imo :)

Been a while since I have posted on here, I finished DROOD by Simmons. I thought it started slow but soon had me lapping up the Dickensian London tale, I read the second half of the book in one sitting!

I followed that up with Sphere by Crichton. This is the first Crichton book I have read and now I really want to read Jurassic Park! I only read it as I finished Drood at work and had nothing to read, so grabbed this from the charity stall we have in the hospital reception. Great book, fast paced and easy reading.

Then I read Artemis by Andy Weir, I haven't read The Martian (I did love the film though) and saw the signed limited edition for £12.99, so thought it would be rude not to buy it at that price. Good, solid story, loved the lead character...it did get a bit too science-y in places for me, but still enjoyed it!

Next up was a recommendation from a Goodreads friend - The Last Days of Jack Sparks by Jason Arnopp.
I had never heard of either the book or the author in all honesty but my friend could not stop singing it's praises. I checked Amazon and it was £1.60 (ish) for the kindle version and thought I had nothing to lose. I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed this, great to have something come out of nowhere and literally wow you. Any lover of horror fiction should give this a go, especially if you can get it at the low price. Mixing old horror tropes into something a bit more modern, cleverly written, I hated, loved and despaired for Jack!! Recommended!

And now I find myself (finally) starting The Passage by Cronin.
So far, so very good. Really liking his writing style, just made it to part 2 and loving it!!

Hope everyone is well?! :)
Doing well - good to see you posting again!

Naomi Alderman’s The Power. It’s about a fierce new power emerging in the female population—the power to hurt or even kill, by way of a sort of electricity through the body. It explores the reversal of the power structure, as seen through four distinct points of view. It’s really good and will probably be in my top five books of the year. It’s what Sleeping Beauties could have and should have been.

I just finished Daphne DuMaurier's short story collection The Birds & Other Stories. While I enjoyed them all for different reasons, I especially enjoyed the last one in the book, The Old Man. I literally sat on the train during my commute this morning with a dazed look on my face for a number of minutes after finishing this one. It is a truly extraordinary & beautifully written tale. If anyone else has read this particular story I'd love to know what you thought of it. Please use spoilers though.

Finished The Story of Edgar Sawtelle last night. What a wonderful book (thanks, Doc). Lovely story, unforgettable characters, much emotion.
That was an excellent read. I wouldn't have discovered it if I hadn't won it in a local school holiday raffle. I remember reading somewhere that it was based on King Lear.
