I'm reading 20th Century Ghosts (finally!) - thanks skimom2 ! I'm loving it. I've been surprised to find a couple not-scary stories in there. Better Than Home and The Widow's Breakfast come to mind - and Last Breath, all creepy in a way, but not horror. I love short stories. Best New Horror (was that that title?) was pretty scary - those images got into my head. Joe Hill is very talented and always a good read. I've actually only read Heart Shaped Box. NOS4A2 freaked me out in the thrift store (damn it! hard copy for $2.99 and I left it) and Horns just didn't interest me. I need to give them a go.

I read Room by Emma Donoghue last week. Read the whole book in less than 24 hours, a feat I have not accomplished in who knows how long, the way life gets in the way. It was sad and creepy but yet a hopeful story, too.

Reading The Revenant by Michael Punke now. I have not seen the movie yet. I was a little surprised the bear thing happens almost immediately, I was under the impression from the movie trailers that the bear fight was more of a climax moment. But it actually sets up the rest of the story. Also, it is over in 2 pages in the book. ;-D So I am interested in seeing how much was changed for the movie. I am enjoying it. Snowy day in store today, so hoping to get back into it.

Also about 3/4 of the way through a reread of The Stand. :)

Yes, the bear attack happens at the beginning of the film, about 5 minutes in I believe. It is quick, too. Brutal.

Why hidden? It's not a very good book, but interesting in historical context.

i'm aware actually that this book was banned in many countries *whisper* quite lucky that my country did not ban any single books, as if they did not care a lot about censorship in Books, movies and Documentaries :DDD. i was interested at Nazi history actually and Hitler since i was young (when i first heard him at my History class)

Now I'm intrigued.

By the way, I love your Snake in the box profile picture. :D

*whispers* my MM plans were not special actually
because METAL GEAR ATSUMEEE *i was playing MGSV lately and i notice i haven't playing video games for months because of projects :O gonna play it as soon as projects are done :'O*

I saw a copy of this at a bookstore (new) and I was like WTF??????

YES! absolutely, my entire reaction seeing the books in the bookstore
i tell it to my Pops, he laughed and said "if you want it, just buy it, i will pay for it"
tell it to my mom, she said "what"
tell it to my classmates, two of my classmate said "DUDE, DID YOU JUST. . . " and "Buy that, and let me borrow it for few days"

I have faith in Tim Burton...and Eva Green.
The book was ok but I think the movie will be better. Just a hunch.

I enjoyed Room very much. I also the movie adaptation was good. Of course, the book is always better but I am good at separating the movie and the book.

I have been considering The Revenant... I wonder if it would be a good audio book.

Finally getting around to All the Light We Cannot See. Not quite halfway in but am told the stories will eventually come together and make sense.

This was one of my favorites last year. I liked it very much.

All The Light We Cannot See was one of my favorites from last year! WWII historical fiction is my favorite genre. If you want some more suggestions let me know, there are many good ones.

I think it would probably be an excellent audio, it reads like a movie. So much imagery.

I finished it this morning. I liked it but feel I should have known a little about Hugh Glass before...so many places mentioned are places I know. Places in South Dakota, Wyoming and Nebraska. I do not remember learning a thing about him though.

The author is from Torrington, Wyoming. That is about 15 miles from where I grew up. Which I also did not know until reading his afterward.

It is fictionalized but Punke pointed things out in his afterward that he took liberties with.

I enjoyed it and am looking forward to seeing the movie now.

I am trying very hard to avoid real life stuff (I mean actual life stuff, not fictionalized versions of real life stuff, like The Revenant ;)) right now so jumped right into Escape From Mr. Lemoncello's Library by Chris Grabenstein. I think it was @do1you9love who said she was reading it with her daughter. I thought it sounded like one my kids would like too. It is very cute so far.

I loved The Revenant! My husband and I had fun identifying the places listed and comparing which ones each of us had been to :) I didn't recognize the name of the main Indian tribe, but my mom did (born Thermopolis and raised in Riverton/Morton--lol). I came away wondering the same thing about that one as I did about Shane: why aren't these required reading for students in Wyoming (different age groups, of course)?
