Started The Bone Bed by Patricia Cornwell last night. I've been slacking on my 'Scarpetta' novels for the last couple of years. I think I'm about 4 behind but plan on changing that quickly.
I just finished Chaos, the latest novel. I hadn't read past the 5th book, I think. It worked as a stand alone novel, but now I want to go back and catch up on the rest.

She really lost me when she switched to third person for the storytelling. I didn't like it at all and I think a lot of the Scarpetta fans didn't either. I think sales dropped with those books. I'm glad she went back to first person. I'm liking this one so far. It's nice to be back with the old crew- Scarpetta, Marino, Lucy. Benton hasn't made it back 'on stage' yet tho.

I've only read the first one. I still remember her neice, Lucy. Was she in that one or have I got my books mixed up? I liked the Grafton books, too, but stopped at 'J'. I'm intending to pick up the next one. I have them in a storage box.

Yes, Lucy is in the tales from the first book, although she's still a teen in the early ones. I've never read Grafton- I can't afford to take on another author at this point as I would have to collect all of the books and her early ones aren't cheap. ;-D

Heh. Craig Toomy doesn't really work for me, as a character. The idea of waking up on a plane and finding most of the passengers to be missing is far scarier than that annoying azz-clown.
This is true. He was annoying for sure, especially in that TV adaptation. That reminds me, this story is very similar to the book Left Behind.

That's my dilemma. I begin so many books in a series that I can't catch up. James Lee Burke, CJ Box, Philip DePoy, Grafton, Stuart Woods, and on it goes.

Read Pride and Prejudice for the first time. It was just Meh for me. Parts were great, parts were so boring I almost gave up. Not going to be a favorite classic, ever, but I'm glad I finally got around to reading it.
I just kept thinking of Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks in You've Got Mail and how enamoured Meg Ryan's character was with the romance of this book. When they finally got around to admitting their love for one another, I found it very anticlimactic! I guess I was expecting fireworks. ;-D

Now I am about halfway through Wreckage by Emily Bleeker and also reading the 4th Mitford book. I am savoring the Mitford series, they are populated by people who are so comfortable and easy, I just like to take my time through them and really enjoy them. Thanks again for the recommendation, skimom2

Very interesting! There were 5 that I haven't heard of, but many that I absolutely love. A few by authors that I have heard of but haven't read--I'm going to try to hit those books soon :) You are truly one of the best read and most interesting people I've ever met, Kurt. Thank you.

PS The Secret History and The Likeness are so similar. For French, I'd probably pick In The Woods.
Just out of curiosity.... (I have difficulty imagining you not having heard of a book) which 5 hadn't you heard of?

I probably never would have started reading her if not for Skimoms recommendations. As always they were spot on!

Anyone read anything by Steve Berry? I received the first five books in the Cotton Malone series as a gift, and I'm getting ready to start The Templar Legacy, the first in the series. The stories sound quite interesting, and I've seen Berry described as the "thinking man's Dan Brown."
