I love Atwood and in fact I'm reading Alias Grace right now. I've read about 3/4 of her novels. I am hesitating to read Hagseed as I have never read or seen a production of Shakespeare's The Tempest, of which Hagseed is a retelling (for those who are not familiar with the book). That said, may I ask if you think it necessary to be familiar with Shakespeare's play to fully enjoy the book? Thanks.
I don't think you need to be familiar with The Tempest to enjoy Hag-Seed. It is less of a retelling than I originally thought. The play is more of a story within the story. Didn't start reading it right away because I thought it would be too much like The Penelopiad (which I just finished a few weeks ago). It is completely different - I'm about 3/4 of the way through and am enjoying it much more than I thought I would!

Finished The People of The Wind by Poul Anderson. Good book. A reread but it holds up well. I like authorsthat are good at telling a story and Anderson is that. And have the cabapility not to let the story bog down in endless describtions of things not really necessary for the story just to show off. The story is the master, the author is the medium through which the story reaches us and should not cloud the story he is trying to tell. Something far to common which Anderson never does.

Must see if they have it at the library or if i can order it. Is it as good??
Well, I enjoyed the premise of the first one, which at the time was unknown to me that something like it existed. So, I knew what the set-up would be for the sequel, but it is suspenseful in it's own right. Morrell is a master at the craft so you can't go wrong with his books.

Re-reading Danse Macabre. I love this book so much! I sure wish he'd do an updated version... (hint, hint) ;)
I suggested this myself. I also said he should do a nonfiction book on his reading life. Now that I think of it, it'd be better if he did an autobiography and peppered it with his favorite books over the years. On Writing and Danse Macabre might be as close as we will get to an autobiography, unfortunately.

Finished Creepers by Morrell. He keeps the pace high and the suspense too. Sometimes you wish that he could take a little more time with characters. But a good book.
I had never heard of this book so I looked it up on Amazon. I grew up going to Asbury Park when it was a flourishing resort town. Then as I got older it started to go downhill and became pretty much a ghost town. In our early 20s, my friend Bob and I shot a 16mm B&W movie there that's pretty haunting. Asbury park has been going through a gentrification porocess in the last few years and is sort of making a comeback. I may have to read this book.

Finished Behind Closed Doors yesterday. I can't remember the author's name, and I've already delted it from my nook app.
It was one of the most far-fetched books I've ever read. It was recommended by a friend who (usually) shares my taste in books, but this was a waste of time and $$$.

Now reading Sophie's Choice. I like it so far. I tried to watch the film recently, but it just seemed silly (and I'm so not a fan of Meryl Streep or Kevin Kline).

Sophie's Choice is a pretty long book and it encompasses alot of plot/story but well worth the read. It's one of my favorite books.
