I haven't read any of his work. :a11:
Oh, luv, you are in for a treat. Lansdale is a wonderful writer. His 'Hap & Leonard' books have been filmed as a series on one of the cable stations and is a big hit. He's another 'regional' writers where he sets most of his stories down in East Texas, where he resides. Great reading, great stories and great characters! The only quibble I have with him is his use of the 'n' word in his tales, but it reflects how his characters talk down that way. I don't believe he is racist as one of his most beloved characters 'Leonard' is a large black gay man.

Just about to start rereading Titus Groan and Gormenghast, by Mervyn Peake, two of my favourite books. Are there any other fans of these gorgeous, sprawling, unclassifiable novels here? I read them every few years, and always look forward to it, like looking forward to a holiday. :)

...I haven't caught a ton of Lansdale's stuff over the years, but what I have read is tasty....

Finished The Girl with All the Gifts last night and started In Cold Blood. Capote's writing is poetry.

You started In Cold Blood? Details?!!!! Let's see, you read straight thru the night and either went to work bleary-eyed & hopped up on Rockstar energy drink the next day, or called in sick. Because you're riding with Dick & Perry across the badlands of Kansas in an old Chevy, and there are no stops along the way! Damn. Nobody worked the language like that little monster. If you finished it, immediately pick up Music for Chameleons and read Hand-Carved Coffins. Then read all the rest! To me, these were his most rewarding books. He certainly did other good work (not enough), but the others didn't do as much for me. I never expected to see an Capote thread here! So danie, I'm putting this up for you. Just because.

Finished The Burning World. There were things I liked, and a whole big honking lot of eye rollers. This book is the KING of deus ex machina--lol. The tone is almost entirely different from that of the first book in the series (Warm Bodies), and that was really weird--made it very clear that R and Julie's story was never meant to be more than a stand alone book. Still, I'll probably hang around for the inevitable third book. I'm a sucker for dystopias.

Rogue One is half finished, and not a bad book. I've read SW novels that were far more poorly written. It will have to go on hiatus, though, because I have 2 books due for review in the next couple of weeks :)

You didn't like it?
Oh, c'mon! Creed's a big boy. If he gets mad he can get glad in the same pants he got mad in. Don't coddle him! C'mon, give! Fork it over! Stop being such a tease!
Okay.
I didn't finish it.
Too much back story!!!!
Get to the murders!!!!
Don't get me wrong. The writing was beautiful, awesome, lovely. But waaaay too wordy for me.
(I'm also going through a weird time in my life, and that's another reason I stopped reading it. I will finish it; I promise.)

Just started The Great God Pan, a book mentioned in Danse Macabre, which I just finished. For the 6th time ;)

I love reading Machen! I have the book The House of Souls in hardcover edition, and that story is in it. I'd also highly suggest Algernon Blackwood's works, if you haven't already read him. His John Silence stories and The Man Who Loved Trees are some of my favorite old-fashioned horror.

I completely get the "weird time" in your life. I quote that from Fight Club sometimes because it feels applicable to my own situation. In Cold Blood really is a masterpiece but, as I told 80sFan, books hit each of us in different ways and at different times.
