Delivered From Evil: True Stories of Ordinary People Who Faced Monsters, Mass Killers and Survived

I just started this. This book tells the story of forgotten survivors in 12 mass murder cases. Each of the 12 chapters tells about the event and then focuses on the people that managed to get out alive and the effect the tragedy had on their lives. The author talks about how the people and the media always focus on and remember the killer and forget about the survivors. There are some events in this book that I had never heard of which is disturbing because these things are so common, that people forget about them.

In the book, the author talks about a mass killing at a school in Bath, Michigan in 1927 where a deranged guy blew up the school and killed 45 people and injured 58. I was shocked because I had never heard of it before and I've asked some others if they had heard of it and so far I haven't found anyone who has. It's disturbing that something like that can just be forgotten.

I've heard of that and it's because out of curiosity I did some research after the Sandy Hook shooting. It's so sad . . .I think I'll add this to my list to read. Thanks fljoe0

Now I'm getting what HollyGolightly said about the protag of We Need To Talk About Kevin. I really, really, really hate her. This book is depressing the hell out of me--not sure I can finish.
Life is too short to read a book that is either depressing, boring or you're just not enjoying. Besides there are too many good books out there. IMO, anyway.

I'm sure getting to that point. I can definitely see why this is considered an 'important' book, and it's certainly well-written, but... *sigh* This is one I may not finish.

I have just started The Romanov Cross by Robert Masello. A US epidemiologist is asked to go to an island off the coast of Alaska once settleed by a sect devoted to the mad Russian monk, Rasputin. This sect was wiped out by the Spanish flu in 1918, but now the permafrost is melting and bodies are appearing, is the virus still viable? WHOOOHOOOO!!

Did I mention the casket that the crabbing boat pulled on board just before it crashed into the rocks surrounding the island?
