I had a fascination with store windows as a child. I even ran out of a restaurant where I was having lunch with my mother and brother and into the furniture store next door and sat on the couch in the window. They couldn't find me for a while but when they did, oh boy did I get it. I must have been about 5 or 6. Funny thing is that I wound up doing window displays for retail stores for a while in my 20s.
This is a touching, funny story. From one writer to another, you're very good. A rookie mistake is pounding a story to death with flowery language (I'm guilty of this sometimes) and missing the essence of a story. Try sharing more of your memories/stories here in one of the Story threads.

Love these responses. Since I started this thread I guess I should say what I wanted to be. I don't know the exact terminology for this job, but I wanted to work with serial killers. Seriously, this was before every show on tv portrayed one. I was seven years old and told my mom I wanted to catch, "people that kill for no reason." I guess looking back, people now would say FBI profiler. But I literally could not deal with the heartbreak. As much as SOME/MOST of the people of the world disgust me, I could not live my life knowing someone killed someone and because of a technicality or something else they would go free. I also think that was one of the saddest moments for me. To realize what I want SO much in my life, I cannot do. Anyway love the responses!! Keep em coming!!

Beautiful. Reminds me of Charles Schultz comics when Linus said he wanted to be happy. Now that's all I'm trying to achieve. Haven't yet… but still so blessed
I think it's a life long search or quest, if you will. We just have to remind ourselves of our blessings along the way. In other words: keep on keeping on. =D

I never know what i wanted to be until i was 20. Just know i wanted something that demanded a higher education so i took courses at the university that sounded interesting but had no idea what i would end up as. And then, suddenly, i just know, an Archaeologist! Luckily i could use the courses i had read as a base so they werent wasted.
