I read that Jesse Eisenberg almost ruins it with his over-the-top performance. Of course, this isn't meant to be a subtle film.

Not sure if there will be spoilers, but tagged just in case.

As I mentioned, Lex was one of my favorite things in the movie. I am thinking the people who criticize him are just Batman "fans" who do not like or try to understand Superman. Let me say why...

I've heard people say he "tries to be The Joker" and that he acts crazy, when Lex is not crazy.

Well, In my experience, Lex Luthor is definitely crazy. Always has been. He was a mad scientist, remember.

He could be the most respected human in the world. He is a genius. He is high profile. But every time Superman receives even the slightest praise, praise that should be going to him, he loses his marbles. He does everything he does to bring Superman down. He is envious of his status, his adoration and his powers. He already has the intelligence, but does not get what he wants, and he blames Superman.

In the movie, he begins a speech about how "knowledge is power", but he cannot finish that sentence. He knows knowledge WAS power, but not anymore. Now power is power. Now he is second place. This is a very serious issue with Lex, present in the comics and in the cartoons and in the movies.

Some people compare some of his actions to The Joker's in the recent Batman films, saying The Joker just wanted to cause chaos, just like Lex does things without rhyme or reason. To them I repeat what I said before. All Lex ever does is to ruin Superman.

I like how he shows us a Lex who is confident and then a Lex who cannot even finish a coherent speech, to one who loses focus of everything because of his hate for Clark.

I do not know if the people you heard that from had one of these opinions, but once you watch the movie, please tell me if you agreed with them that Jesse was too much, or if perhaps they just didn't get him.

I agree with King though, I think he said it, that he likes Batman better than Superman because he's more complex. More darker. I don't know how or why they are doing this Batman v Superman, but I'll find out tomorrow. I never liked the Alien v Predator. Maybe the 2007 one when they go into the Colorado town. I liked where the Predator was down in the tunnels and there were the hobos and the Predator throws those things against the wall. Gunnison.

The bad thing Wolverine and Batman face because they have legions of fans is that they are forced by the same fans to become simple in their complexity, as in they have nothing but their complexity.

Sound weird, and like it would not be a bad thing, so I will try to explain.

How many times are we forced, in cartoons, movies, comics at least once a year, to see Bruce's parents killed? Then we are shown how he focuses everything in his life to go against this fear by fighting crime. All of that might still be good, though, as he is someone who may be just as insane as his enemies (and he may know it), with a part of him wanting to have lives like normal people, but not being able to do it. Having the origin thrown at us by every writer who starts working on Batman comics is bad, but still not so bad.

Fans come in, and suddenly Batman is not allowed to lose. Same as Wolverine (who started as someone who does not give up, even if he *could* be killed and felt all that pain; now he simply cannot be killed, ever, and no one can win against Wolverine, which is ridiculous and boring). Having a lot of fans means these two characters must beat every adversary, no matter how powerful they are.

At least Spidey's fans love to see him suffer and lose every now and then. :cold:

I know Batman likes to be prepared. For everything. That is an acceptable trait. But being prepared does not always mean coming out on top. The Batman and Wolverine affected by fan-power are characters I do not care about.

Not really a spoiler, but I like the Batman in this movie, because he keeps the traits that make him Batman, but still he is not an invincible god. He can win, and he can lose. They kept him complex.

And some fans did not like him.
