Salt pork, they have it here called 'Fat back' why? why?

Manhattan clam chowder is delish. New England clam chowder not so much.
Had to look that up. Apparently fat back is the basic cut and salt pork has been cured with salt from either pork belly or fat back.
I think the “going off on the wrong tangent” box has been checked when I posted about the Patriots. They forgave me. I think it’s cool to list what you don’t like here too. A lab I worked at had a Jewish lady owner/ each Saturday there was the bagel and lox and on special occasions gefilte fish. Haven't had the gefilte fish in awhile. An acquired taste.
Mom always cooked green beans with fat back. Pintos too, if she didn't have a ham hock.
