I read Pet Semetary when I was like 9.
I was probably hip deep in The Hardy Boys Mysteries, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, all sorts of stuff.. as an aside I read the last of the really great whangdoodles by Julie Edwards real name Julie Andrews of Mary Poppins fame. It's funny, there are creatures with strange names in it and the human kids are named Potter.. being British, I wonder if that was an influence on JK Rowling and her Harry Potter series, with the strange names that she used for animals and other things..
At nine I was reading stuff like Encyclopedia Brown mysteries or doing Adlibs, LOL. That's impressive you were reading at an advanced level. Did it scare you?
cool story! My first memory of Stephen King is of my sister reading Salem's Lot, must have been around '77 or '78, she slept with her light on for months afterward, then in '79 in was in hospital for minor surgery and the night I went in Salem's Lot was on tv, there was a tv in the ward I was in so everybody crowded around the telly and watched it, even the nurses sat down on the end of the beds and watched. The following year I started working in my current profession, I met a guy who was a big SK fan, he recommended I read whatever SK book I could get my hands on, and I haven't stopped since.
My first memory of sai King was that he was the heppest of hep cats!
Nice memories to have.I first started reading Stephen King with my brother (he'd read them to me). We read quite a few, but I can't remember the very first one. It was either Carrie or Pet Sematary.
I was familiar with Stephen King before that, but I had never read one of his books all the way through, only heard my bro talk about them and seen some of the movies. Big shout out to my brother for getting me hooked!
I guess I was one of the weird kids, LOL. Nice to meetcha, Quinton.I would have to say, Carrie. There was always that one person on the bus who would read and be in the "knowledge" of all of the Stephen King Books and one might find them a little on the weird side for always possessing a Stephen King novel that they read rather than join in the afterschool bus ride antics. Every once in a while they would get my attention and give enough info to know to watch out for it coming out in the movies. I was never much of a reader but they always gave enough info to know to look out for the movie. Which is how I acquainted myself with Stephen King. I always was jealous of the people who would say " MAN you should read the book It's so much better !! I could never sit still or understand what I read.View attachment 34080 Much rather see the movie a book took me weeks to read.
....in my soul-I'm STILL a weird kid.....just one who long ago outgrew the waist size of that kid's pants.....I guess I was one of the weird kids, LOL. Nice to meetcha, Quinton.
